Police have charged a man after a mother of three sustained terrible burns in a

suspected domestic violence attack on Friday night.

On Saturday police said the 33-year-old woman, who is believed to have recently
separated from her husband, tried to run into a nearby creek after she suffered
burns to her face, arms, upper torso and lap, police said.

The incident happened near the corner of Honey Street and Mill End in Mt Helena.

On Sunday, police said a a 42-year-old man from Mount Helena had been charged with
one count of aggravated grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.

WA Police Inspector Glen Beros of the Midland District Office said it was a
“tragic” incident that police are carefully looking into.

“As with all family violence-related investigations, they are complex and we want
to be very thorough to work through this,” Insp. Beros said.

He said the woman sustained “life-changing injuries” and there were several
witnesses to the horrific incident assisting with the investigation.

“The residents have done fantastically but of course, it’s been a very traumatic
experience for them,” Insp. Beros said.

“Some of them were on scene virtually immediately and were assisting the young
woman, particularly with her injuries.”
