Educators plays an important role in this world. The code of ethics for teachers exist to
protect the rights of the students and teachers. The role of teachers to the community is to show
an example of responsibility and dignity.
Article 9 – TEACHERS AND PARENTS
Section 1: “ Every teacher shall establish and maintain cordial relations with
parents, and shall conduct himself to merit their confidence and respect.”
In teaching, it is important to create a harmonious relationship with parents because
teachers alone can not teach the students. Creating a relationship between the parents and
teachers, getting their trust in you, to obtain confidence on themselves and for you as well in
educating the students makes teaching a lot easier. Having their full support in molding the
students can create a good progress.
Section 2: “Every teacher shall inform parents, through proper authorities, of the
progress and deficiencies of learner under him. exercising utmost candor and tact
in pointing out learners deficiencies and in seeking parent’s cooperation for the
proper guidance and improvement of the learners.”
Teachers and parents should work hand-in-hand and become the building blocks of the
students. As for the result with the joined effort of both the parents and teachers, the learners’
development should be seen. Engaging PTAs, Homeroom Advisers meetings, Parents and
Teachers Conference, and other avenues that create socialization and bond with the teachers and
parents. Through this engagements, learners’ development and deficiencies are talked about. It is
also important to allow the parents to know about the student’s performance at school, their
progress, strength, deficiencies, and suggest the parents on what are the possible things that they
can do to help their child to progress. In pointing out these deficiencies, teachers must be tactful
and choose the right words to say and say it positively.
Section 2: “A teacher shall maintain a good reputation with respect to the financial
matters such as in the settlement of his debts and loans in arranging satisfactorily
his private financial affairs.”
Having loans for teachers are normal as long as it is paid on time and go accordingly on
the terms of the loan. Teachers should not be judged despite being in debt for over 70 billion
from legitimate lending institutions because we have different life situations and different
priorities and different issues to settle.
Section 3: “No teacher shall act, directly or indirectly, as agent of, or be financially
interested in. any commercial venture which furnish textbooks and other school
commodities in the purchase and disposal of which he can exercise official
influence, except only when his assignment is inherently, related to such purchase
and disposal: provided they shall be in accordance with the existing regulations:
provided, further, that members of duly recognized teachers cooperatives may
participate in the distribution and sale of such commodities.”
Teachers should not engage themselves into businesses that are directly in line with t heir
jobs. For example, selling books, notebooks and other affiliated school materials. But there is an
exception, when the teacher is a member of a legitimate cooperative organizations that
distributes books and school commodities.
Section 1: “All school officials shall at all times show professional courtesy,
helpfulness and sympathy towards teachers and other personnel, such practices
being standards of effective school supervision, dignified administration,
responsible leadership and enlighten directions.”
School Officials do not obtain the right to degrade their subordinates no matter how high
their positions are. On the contrary, school officials should be the role models and still show
courtesy, helpfulness, and genuine sympathy towards their teachers, students, and other
personnel. Positions does not give you the right to disrespect people.
Section 2: “School officials, teachers, and other school personnel shall consider it
their cooperative responsibility to formulate policies or introduce important
changes in the system at all levels.”
It is the responsibility of the school personnel to create policies that are needed in the
establishment and stakeholders. In formulating these policies, it should contain a collaborative
effort as it introduce change to the system and addressing the existing problems that requires
change and solutions. School officials should also serve as a role model for the community.
Section 3:” School officials shall encourage and attend the professional growth of
all teachers under them such as recommending them for promotion, giving them
due recognition for meritorious performance, and allowing them to participate in
conferences in training programs.”
When it comes to support, school officials should be vocal regarding to their subordinates
on their profession, and personal growth. It must be seen that the school officials provide
transparency and not favoritism to their subordinates. By encouraging them as well to finish their
master’s degree, commend their behavior, recognize their good performance.
Section 4:” No school officials shall dismiss or recommend for dismissal a teacher
or other subordinates except for cause”
School Officials are not allowed to dismiss a teacher except if there is a cause. No
interior motives should be included when it comes to dismissing a teacher because it is unethical
to formulate stories just to get rid of the person.
Section 5: “School authorities concern shall ensure that public school teachers are
employed in accordance with pertinent civil service rules, and private school
teachers are issued contracts specifying the terms and conditions of their work:
provided that they are given, if qualified, subsequent permanent tenure, in
accordance with existing laws.”
Teachers in public schools should be employed based on the ranking system. Private
school teachers are issued with contracts and by that it comes with terms and conditions.
Teachers should be the one who follow the rules that are implemented by the institution in order
for the students to follow as well.
