Alex Eala nabs W25 Yecla to bag third

ITF title
Philippines bet Alex Eala completed her W25 Yecla campaign on a high note
bagging her third International Tennis Federation crown after surviving the Swiss
Valentina Ryser in the W25 Yecla Final today, June 4 (Manila Time) at Yecla Club de
Tenis in Spain, 6-3, 7-5.
The Rafa Nadal Academy scholar and a second seeded Eala unleashed her
dominant finish on the campaign securing the $25, 000 tournament.
Eala made a strong start having a 3-0 advantage over Ryser on the opening set,
however Ryser fought back to cut the lead to 4-2.
The 18-year-old Eala revive her momentum securing her grip to unleash a
service ace taking the leadership of 5-2 en route to her 6-3 victory.
Filipino pride blew a 2-0 lead on the second set, but Ryser, a three-time ITF titlist
dominated the third and fourth game to snatch the momentum from Eala and level the
match at 2-2.
Eala answered the Swiss’ resiliency with authority taking the fifth game, however
the 22-year-old Ryser did not hold back to level the match at 3-3.
The two contenders served the audience a slugfest as they fought a close match,
but Eala took over the momentum as Ryser committed a double fault to hand the 6-5
markers to the Filipino bet and saw an opportunity to close the match at 7-5.
Alex Eala emerge victorious to clinch her third International Tennis Federation
crown and continue to make history as she became the first Filipino to win Grand Slam
singles title during the US Open girls.
