EJ Obiena initiates first Pole Vault event; secures gold in World

Athletics 2024

Sealing the record of 5.83, Ernst John Obiena brought home the gold medal. EJ ruled
the indoors in World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze held in Memorial Josip Gasparac
in Croatia on Tuesday, February 20 (Wednesday, February 21, Manila time).

Obiena’s goal to surpass his personal best record of 6.00m was unsuccessful.
However, bagging the gold medal was an enthusiastic move.

The Filipino pole vaulter was back in action after setting the same record of 5.83 past
2023 in Asian Games last September that took place in Hangzhou, China.

His first attempt in the 5.11 to the 5.51m level came successful, which was a
stepping stone for him to acclaim the gold.

However, EJ Obiena’s first attempt in the 5.73-meter level outcomes to fall short.
Nevertheless, it was accomplished in EJ’s second try.

Following, the same record of last time, 5.83 was performed successfully by EJ
Obiena. Obiena needed just one try to clear 5.83m as he shattered the previous
meet record of 5.72m set by Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis and Poland’s Piotr Lisek last
year.

The 5.93 level was a bit too strenuous for EJ, he might have failed to portray the
round, but he was labeled as the winner in the World Athletics as he was able to
execute the highest meter in the pole vault

EJ Obiena perfectly outplayed other athletes in the first to the last set, making the
first set as a stage for him to display their striking jumps in the air alongside with his
dedication, perseverance, and sportmanship. Obiena will look forward to stamp out
other and bag more medals in the future.
