Alex Eala moves to W50 indore quarterfinals

18 year-old Filipina tennis prodigy, Alex Eala, defeats Ekaterina Yoshina after
jumping 63 spots in the rankings, moving from 187th to 124th place.

Eala carves out a 7-6(1), 6(4)-7, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the $40,000
match at the Indore Tennis Club in India. In the battle, the unevenly balanced
score line of the third-set clearly showed how tight the match was, thus it lasted 2
hours and 39 minutes.

The Filipina also captured her first doubles championship in the women’s
professional circuit I the same tournament with her Latvian partner, Darja
Semenistaja.

The Russian dominated the game during the second-set, but Alex Eala set the
pace in the third-set when she broke Yashina’s serve in the first game.

Alex Eala then notched a new career best in the WTA rankings this week, rising to
world No.184, after reaching the quarterfinals, seeded No.3, there was no
stopping the Filipina.

For Eala’s next battle, she would be competing the winner between No.6 seed,
Anca Alexia Todoni, and Japan’s Rina Saigo for a seat in the Final Four of the elite
$50,000 tourney.
