Costa Rican: We will talk about those later – first, I want to learn about American holidays! What do you guys
celebrate in the United States?
American: Well, the biggest holidays that people celebrate are Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and 4th
of July.

American: It is our country’s Independence Day.
Costa Rican: What do people do on the 4th of July?
American: Families and friends gather together and they usually spend time outside because the weather is
very warm and sunny in July.
Costa Rican: What do they do outside?
American: Usually people have a barbeque with hotdogs and hamburgers. Some people like to play games
outside, like throwing a Frisbee, or playing catch with a baseball.
Costa Rican: So people spend time together and eat. Do they do anything else?
American: The most important part of the 4th of July is the fireworks show at night. People in every city come
