Ariana. Adriana: We usually stay home and have a quiet family dinner, but this year, we are
going to visit my grandparents in Atenas. We are having a big family gathering with my
aunts, uncles, and cousins. What about you?
Brenda: I am not sure yet. My father wants to go to the beach and spend Christmas
there. My mother wants to prepare a fancy Christmas dinner with some close friends. I
really would like to do something more traditional.
Adriana: Maybe you should go to Atenas with me! We are going to help grandma to
prepare tamales on December 23rd. That’s fun because everybody participates. My
grandma is a great cook. Her tamales are the best.
Brenda: What else do you do?
Adriana: Well, besides tamales, we make eggnog, chicharrones, and Christmas cake! My
aunt, Sara, organizes a secret Santa, so we exchange gifts among each other on
Christmas Eve.
Brenda: That sounds like fun!
Adriana: Yes! Also, we have a big family dinner, and we sing Christmas carols. We stay
up very late. At midnight, my father and uncles light some fireworks. I love that part.
Fireworks are great! On Christmas day, we usually go to a nearby river and have a picnic
there.
