The Songkran Festival is a rich and symbolic celebration in Thailand. It marks

the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year. This festival is celebrated from 13 to

15 April every year. A day before the celebration, Thais clean their houses in order not

to bring bad luck into the New Year. The Thais will also visit the temples and offer

food to the Buddhist monk on this day.

The Songkran Festival is also known as the ‘Water Festival’. It is a period when

Thais splash water on themselves. They believe that splashing water can wash off all

misfortunes in the past year, thus welcoming the new year with a fresh start.
