Topic : Comparing The Islamic View Of Human Rights

Overview:

Human Right is a vital issue to be discussed, moreover in the West countries. This is because
Human Right is talking about human being. Although this conception was born and
developed in the West, but East countries, which Islam becomes the majority, adapt this
concept slowly to be contained within in the state law. Islamic concept is whispered as the
way of life by its believers. Islam according to its believers is a complete concept that rule
every parts in the human’s life, no concession in the regulation of Human Right. Islam as a
religion means “rahmatan lil ‘alamin,” which means mercy, kindness for the universe, even
in the social injustice Islam orders about the concept of Human Right.

Definition Of Human Rights

Human rights can purely be defined as Inalienable essential rights to which a person is
inherently enabled basically for being human. Those are a set of ideologies concerned with
equality and fairness. They recognize our freedom to make choices about our lives and to
develop our potential as human beings. They are about living a life free from fear,
harassment or discrimination.

Human rights can mostly be defined as a number of basic rights that people from around the
world have agreed are essential. These include the right to a fair trial, freedom from torture
and other cruel and inhuman treatment, freedom of speech or communication, freedom of
religion, and the rights to health, education and a bearable standard of living.

Characterization of Human Rights:

The characterizations of Human Rights are:
1. Human Rights are the part of human beings spontaneously
2. Human Rights are valid and maintained by human beings
2

3. Individual’s Rights could not be disturbed or ruined

That is a pointer of the origin of the birth of the Human Rights concept that emerged in the
West as the birthplace of the understanding.

Human Rights from Islamic view:

Islam essentially knew more about the essence or values of Human Rights that had only been
known in the West since 1400 centuries ago. Even though it is not a ‘declaration’ or formal
confirmation that Islam recognizes Human Rights. The values restricted in Islamic teachings
clearly reflect that Islam is pro with Human Rights. It should be noted that the Prophet
Muhammad had previously mentioned the article on human rights in the Al-Wada Hajj. This
is summarized in a hadith “From Abu Umamah bin Tsa’labah, the Prophet said:

‘Whoever seizes the rights of a Muslim, then he has the right to go to hell and unlawful to
enter heaven ‘, A man asks: ‘Even though it is something small, Apostle?’ He replied:
‘Even though it is only a piece of arak wood”.

In Islam, the essence of human being is the same, it’s makes different is on the level of
religiousness, piety.

The Islamic Human Rights system comprises basic ideologies of equality, freedom and
respect for companion human beings. Equality means that Islam views all humans as equal
and have the same position, have the same justice (comparative), the only advantage enjoyed
by a human being on other humans is only determined by the level of piety. This is in
harmony with the word of God in Sura Al-Hujarat verse 13, which means:

“O mankind, verily we created you from men and women, and we made you nations and
tribes so that you would know each other. Surely the noblest of the people is the most
pious.”

The Concept of Human Rights in Islam

This concept holds five main things that must be sustained by distinct, i.e.
3

1. Hifdzu Al-Din (Respect for Religious Freedom)

2. Hifdzu Al-Nafs Wa Al-‘Ird (Respect for the Soul, the Right to Life and the Honor of the
Individual)
3. Hifdzu Al-Mal (Respect for Property)
4. Hifdzu Al-‘Aql (Respect for Freedom of Thought)
5. Hifdzu Al-Nasl (Must Lookout the Descent)

These five main things must be protected by every Muslim in order to produce a more
human life order, based on distinct respect for individuals, individuals with society, society
with society, communities with countries and religious communities with other religious
societies.

Islam and Christianity: comparison

The Islam Worldview is very the same to the Christian Worldview. This is because Muslims
transport many of the same beliefs as Christians, studying the same holy prophets and
scriptures. Specially while understanding the Questions of Origin, the teachings of creation
are the same. Mutually the Qur’an and the Bible state that the world was created in 6 days,
in which God Allah created the heaven, earth, and man. In the Qur’an man was made from
the dust and water where Allah “created man of clay like the potters”, (Ar-Rahman 55:14).
The only difference in this creation story of the Bible is that Christian evidence describe
man being created in God’s Image with soul from His breath. The purpose of life is alike in
equally Islamic and Christian teachings. Both are encouraged to be of good will and to
follow the teachings of God Allah. Man is fortified to enjoy life, work the earth, and grow.
Prosperity can be achieved through family and living according to His spirit.

In this way, both Islam and Christianity can answer questions of Morality. However
question of morality are observed differently in Christianity when compared to Islam. While
Islam follow the moral statuses in agreement with the 5 articles of Faith and the 5 Pillars of
Islam, Christians find moral standing in the 10 Commandments. For example, the 5 Pillars
encourage morality through faith, prayer, fasting, and pilgrimage. They are also encouraged
to be giving on the way to others by showing compassion. Christians, on the other hand,

have straight list of rules that must be observed in order to sustain a good moral standing. It
also provides understanding between good and evil.

Both Islam and Christianity have solid belief in life after death. Those who are good and
faithful are able to enter Paradise or Heaven while those who are bad with evil objectives are
cast to hell. However, there is a huge difference when it comes to beliefs regarding
judgment. The Qur’an teaches that men are judged according to their works both the good
and the bad. In order to reach the heavenly paradise one’s good deeds must be out weight the
bad. On the other hand, in Christianity this is much more complex. Through fate, Christians
are pardoned against their bad deeds through repentance and acceptance of Christ. Although
Christians are also judged according to their works, these works are not weighed against
each other. It is these differences that create the separation of Christian identity and Islamic
identity according to one’s worldview. Christians find their identity through Christ and his
teachings. This includes themes of love and humankind that is related to God’s image.
Islam’s on the other hand, find their identity through Muhammad and unity, acting as one
faith and brothers with one another in faith.

CONCLUSION

Human Rights are the universal issue that have discussed by people around the world.
Many countries concern about this issue and legalize it into Constitution that must be
obeyed by the citizen. However, Islam from the very beginning it be real has regulated its
believers dealing with Human Rights issue, even before the issue appears in the middle of
society. Islam orders five main things that must be maintained by each individual: Respect
for Religious Freedom, Respect for the Soul, the Right to Life and the Honor of the
Individual, Respect for Property, Respect for Freedom of Thought, and Must Guard the
Descent.
