INTRODUCTION

Attendance monitoring is an essential aspect of classroom management in educational

institutions. Private schools are known for their commitment to providing high-quality education,

and attendance tracking is a critical component in ensuring students are actively engaged in the

learning process. Manual attendance tracking methods can be time-consuming and prone to errors,

leading to inaccurate attendance data that can negatively impact student performance. Therefore,

the need to automate the attendance tracking process is crucial in private school settings. According

to a study Online Attendance System (2017), In traditional approaches, students are encouraged to

attend class by receiving attendance points, which contribute to their final grade at the end of the

semester. However, this necessitates additional effort on the part of the instructor, who must ensure

that attendance is accurately recorded, thereby wasting considerable time. Furthermore, it can

become significantly more difficult when dealing with sizable groups of students. This initiative

introduces a new automatic attendance management grading system, which has no impact on the

regular instruction process. Exam sessions and other teaching activities where attendance is

required can utilise the system. The system eliminates traditional methods of student identification,

such as shouting out students' names or examining their identity cards, which not only interfere

with the teaching process but can also be distressing for students during exam sessions.”

An article RFID Based (IoT) Automatic Attendance System: A Survey Analysis. Social

Science Research Network (2019), states that Attendance may also be measured by keeping a daily

register of students, has emerged as an increasingly important criterion for evaluating students'

performance in today's educational system, which includes both schools and colleges. The

traditional method of tracking attendance has a few shortcomings, particularly when considering

recent developments and the current state of technological advancement. For instance, providing

the daily attendance sheet to a large number of the kids in a classroom poses a significant security

risk and limits the teachers' ability to take the children in the classroom into consideration. It is a

waste of time, and a student may purposely enter a fake attendance record into the daily attendance

sheet. The attendance form should be filled out every day. In the possible event that the instructor

misplaces these records, it is absolutely certain that all of the essential attendance data will

disappear.

The developers propose a mobile application that utilises barcode recognition to identify

and register the attendance of students as they enter the classroom. In addition, facial recognition

technology will be implemented to verify the student's identity and prevent attendance deception.

The application will retain attendance information in a secure database and produce reports for

instructors and administrators to review. The mobile application offers private schools several

advantages over traditional attendance monitoring methods. It enables instructors to focus on

classroom instruction and student engagement while reducing the time and effort required to record

attendance manually. In addition, the application provides real-time attendance data that can assist

instructors and administrators in identifying attendance patterns and intervening as needed.

This initiative intends to contribute to the advancement of classroom management and

attendance monitoring in private schools by demonstrating the potential of modern technology to

enhance traditional education practices. It can be modified to meet the specific requirements of

private schools and used to improve attendance monitoring, boost student performance, and ensure

the institution's overall success.

PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION

To highlight the importance of attendance monitoring in private schools and the need to

automate the process to improve accuracy and efficiency. The description focuses on the proposed

capstone project, which aims to develop a mobile application that utilises barcode scanning and

facial recognition technology to automate the attendance monitoring process for a private school.

The description explains how the application will provide an accurate and efficient way to record

and track student attendance while improving classroom security and accountability. Additionally,

the description provides insights into other attendance tracking systems, including android-based

applications and QR code-based systems. The description aims to inform readers about the different

options available for attendance monitoring and their potential benefits and limitations.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

General Objectives

To develop a mobile application that utilizes barcode scanning and facial recognition

technology to automate the attendance monitoring process and improve classroom management in

private schools, while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and meeting the specific

attendance tracking needs of private school environments.

Specific Objectives

● To identify the specific attendance tracking needs of private schools and tailor the

mobile application accordingly to meet those needs.

● To ensure the mobile application complies with the privacy regulations and

guidelines for student data in private schools.

● To conduct thorough testing and validation of the mobile application in a private

school setting, taking into account the unique characteristics and constraints of

private school environments.

● To provide appropriate training and support to teachers and administrators on the use

of the mobile application and ensure its seamless integration into their daily routine.

● To evaluate the impact of the mobile application on the attendance monitoring

process in private schools, specifically measuring its effectiveness in reducing errors

and improving overall efficiency.

To develop a mobile application that can automate the attendance monitoring process and

improve classroom management in private schools. That can utilize barcode scanning and facial

recognition technology to ensure accurate and efficient attendance tracking, while also complying

with privacy regulations and meeting the specific attendance tracking needs of private school

environments. Thorough testing and validation will be conducted in a private school setting, and

appropriate training and support will be provided to teachers and administrators. Also, evaluate the

impact of the mobile application on the attendance monitoring process in private schools, with a

focus on reducing errors and improving overall efficiency.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

Scope

To develop a mobile application that utilizes barcode scanning and facial recognition

technology to automate the attendance monitoring process for a private school. The application will

record and track student attendance accurately and efficiently, improving classroom security and

accountability. It will Focus on the development of the mobile application and its integration with

the school’s existing attendance tracking system. This system will be implemented in a private

school setting.

Limitations

The prototype is only limited to the following functions:

● The project will not cover the development of a new attendance tracking system for

the school.

● The project will not cover the hardware requirements for the barcode scanning and

facial recognition technology.

● The project will not cover the integration of the mobile application with the school’s

student information system.

● The project will not cover the development of a web-based version of the

application.

● The project will not cover the testing and evaluation of the application’s accuracy

and efficiency in a real-world setting.
