1 Involving SHG for demand generation for RMNCH Services [HSS-13 (197)]
Since the staring of NRHM in 2005, one of its major objectives is to improve the
reproductive and Child health services in the country. However, even after more than 10 yrs
of implementation, there are still gaps to be filled in terms of achievement in RMNCH
services.
As per NFHS-5 report there are few areas of concern in the RMNCH where the State needs
to make improvement:

 The IMRof State stands at 36.3 and higher than national average (35.2)
 The NNMR of the State (27) is still higher than the national average (24.9)
 Adolescent anaemia increased from 51 % to 65 % from NFHS-4 to NFHS-5.
Although all the community mobilization drive is done through ASHA and ANM, the
involvement of self help group (SHG) members is expected to further strengthen the
demand generation for RMNCH services. The SHG groups are very active in the society in
the State of Odisha and well accepted in the society. There are 4,93,000 SHGs in Odisha as
per MoRD, GoI (SHG Category Wise (nrlm.gov.in). The SHG in the State is a highly organized
structure with having their own federation at Gram Panchayat, Ward, Block, district level
and State level.
Therefore, it is envisaged to launch a campaign for demand generation of RMNCH services
with special focus on Nutrition and Child health services. (Fy 2022-23: Child Health Services,
Fy 2023-24: Nutritional Services or as decided by State Programme Committee). Although
the initiative is planned for only two years, the initiative will result in dissemination of key
RMNCH health messages in the community level and help in institutional knowledge and
capacity.
Implementation Modality:

 Training material & IEC/BCC prototypes will be developed in-house by SIHFW.

 The District level Master trainers will be trained (virtually) by State level resource
persons from both Health & FW as well as Mission Shakti.
 Three SHG Leader from each Block level SHG federation will be trained and they will
