AWARENESS ON NUTRITION & SUPPLEMENTATION TO

ERADICATE MALNOURISHMENT IN 0-5 YEARS CHILDREN

ORGANIZATION’S MISSION STATEMENT AND GOALS:

MISSION:
• “To provide committed development support that motivates, energizes and
empowers individuals, groups, communities and other organizations to undertake
integrated ecosystems development for enhancement of wellbeing on a sustainable
basis".

THE GOAL:
• “To ensure food, water, livelihoods and income security together with a growing
quality of life to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities on a sustainable and
equitable basis”.
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:
• WOTR is a not-for-profit NGO founded in 1993 operating currently in 8 Indian states – Maharashtra, Telangana,
Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh
• WOTR is recognized widely as a premier institution in the field of participatory Watershed Development and
Climate Change Adaptation. Its unique strength lies in its on-field experience and in a systemic, participatory
approach.
• WOTR was initiated to support a large-scale multi-actor, multi-level, multi-sectoral, community led watershed
development program for poverty reduction called the Indo-German Watershed Development Program
(IGWDP). It was launched in Maharashtra, India by Fr. Hermann Bacher, co-founder and Chairman of WOTR,
and Crispino Lobo, co-founder and Managing Trustee.
• Today, the WOTR Group consists of 4 not-for-profit institutions – the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR);
the Sampada Trust (ST) for women’s empowerment and micro-finance; Sanjeevani Institute for Empowerment
and Development (SIED) which is the implementation wing of WOTR; and Sampada Entrepreneurship and
Livelihoods Foundation (SELF) that has recently been set up to promote social enterprises and livelihoods.
• These institutions collectively have impacted the lives of over 3.7 million people in 8 states in India; trained
over 475,000 people from 27 states and 63 countries and supported development works in over 4,800 villages.
 
 OBJECTIVES:
1.To conduct regular height and weight monitoring of the 0-5 years children
2.To improve nutritional status of children between 0-5 years of age
3.To create awareness in the importance of immunization in children and pregnant women.
4.To conduct nutritious food demonstrations with special emphasis on nutritious recipes.
5.To improve the health literacy among the parents of 0-5 years children
6.To create awareness on importance of Hemoglobin (Hb) and its regular check-up

**For Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand new field staff appointment will be required or the already existing field staff if any, of Cummins can be trained and involved. For
Maharashtra project villages it can be managed by the already existing WOTR field staff.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
• Awareness on health and nutrition among parents, pregnant women
lactating mothers.
• Awareness on the need and importance of immunisation of children and
pregnant women
• Improvement in health literacy among villagers
• Nutritional security for 0-5 year children
• Awareness on importance of hemoglobin level and its regular check-up in
all the age groups.Women will learn to make nutritious and healthy food
from the locally available ingredients.
• The habit of eating nutritious food and growing organic vegetables in own
kitchen garden or multilayer farm will be inculcated.
