MedTech Sector (PRIP)
What’s in News?
• Launched recently.
• Indian pharmaceutical industry is 3rd largest pharmaceutical industry in world by
volume with current market size of around USD 50 Billions.
o Industry could potentially grow to USD 120-130 Billion over next decade.
• 3 bulk drug parks made in Himachal Pradesh, Vizag and Gujarat.
• 4 medical device parks made in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and
Tamil Nadu.

1.2 Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-
PMJAY)
What’s in News?
News 1:
• 2-day Arogya Manthan held to mark 5 years of AB-PMJAY.
• 24.58 crore Ayushman Cards created, and 27,353 Hospitals Empanelled under PM-JAY.
• Under PM-JAY around 5.6 crore hospitals admission (worth over Rs. 69,000 crore) have
undertaken.
• 177 Ayushman cards made Per Minute; 30 beneficiaries’ avail of services per minute; 48%
of Hospitalization availed by Women and 8 hospitals are being empanelled per day, on
an average under PM-JAY.
o over 141 medical procedures exclusively earmarked for women.
• Around 60% of amount has been used for tertiary care hospitalization.
• Awards given to states for effective implementation of PM-JAY and ABDM:
o Highest Ayushman Card Creation:
i. Assam, Nagaland, and Jammu & Kashmir
o Highest Percentage of Utilization in Public Hospitals:
i. Karnataka and Tripura
o For Highest number of treatments, won by

o Gender Equity in Service Delivery, won by:

• All 4,884 ULBs (100%) in India are now Open Defecation
Free (ODF).
• 73.62 lakh toilets (67. 1 lakh individual household toilets
and 6.52 lakh community and public toilets) built.
• 95% wards in India have 100% door-to-door collection
of waste.
• 12 crore toilets have been built in last 9 years under
SBM.
• Solid waste management - almost non-existent at
mission’s inception, now stands at 76%.

• More than 45 crore ABHA IDs have been created,
2,19,546 Health Facilities have been registered, and

1.12 Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP)
What’s in News?
• Government extends support under Scheme for Remission of Duties and Taxes on
Exported Products (RoDTEP) till 30th June 2024.
o at same rates to existing export items.
• In line with Scheme framework, RoDTEP Committee has again been constituted in
Department of Revenue to review and recommend ceiling rates under RoDTEP Scheme
for different export sectors.
• Under Scheme, support of ₹27,018 crores has been extended for 27 month period till
31.03.2023.
• RoDTEP scheme operates under budgetary framework and for FY 23-24, budget of ₹
15,070 crores is available to support 10610 HS lines at 8 digit level.

• Comic Book Developed by NCERT and UNESCO “Let’s Move Forward” launched.
o Focused on good health and wellness, this book will motivate students to prioritise

o Books will be accessible in 11 languages - pertaining to the 11 thematic components

▪ Operative Period - 3 years, from 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2026
▪ Eligible Institutions - all Banks operating in Northeastern States
▪ Eligible Individuals – individual providing service eligible for incentive
and not agency which engage them.
o eligible for 1 incentive irrespective of number of villages
served by him/her.
▪ Eligible Locations - Operators working in rural centres, i.e., Tier 5 &
Incentive Scheme
Tier 6 Centres (population up to 9,999) as per population Census 2011
▪ Financial Incentive of ₹1,000/- per month to be paid to Operators of
for performing 50 and above financial transactions per month on an
average,

(SMAF) Commission period i.e., 2021-22 to 2025-26.

for providing technical support , capacity building etc.

1.28 Digital Health Incentives Scheme (DHIS)

▪ Incentives provided to hospitals and diagnostic labs and to providers

Digital Health o for adopting and enabling transformative digitization
Incentives Scheme under ABDM
(DHIS) ▪ Eligible health facilities and digital solutions companies registered with
ABDM’s Health Facility Registry (HFR) shall be able to earn financial
incentives of up to ₹4 crores
o based on number of digital health records created and
linked to ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) numbers
of patients.
