ARITHMETIC SERIES
is the sum of a sequence in which each term is computed from the
previous one by adding or subtracting a constant “d” (common
difference).

Sn = n/2(2a1 + (n – 1)d)

Sn = (n(a1 + an))/2 Sn = (n/2)(a1 + an)

Let’s Try:
n = 100
Sum of all first 100 positive integers.
a1 = 1
an = 100
Solve: Sn = (n/2)(a1 + an)
S100 = (100/2)(1 + 100)
S100 = (50)(101)
S100 = 5050
Solve: Sn = n/2(2a1 + (n – 1)d)
S100 = 100/2(2(1) + (100 – 1)1)
Solve: Sn = (n(a1 + an))/2
S100 = 50/2(2 + (99)1)
S100 = (100(1 + 100))/2
S100 = 50/2(101)1)
S100 = (100(101))/2
S100 = 50/2(101)
S100 = (10100)/2
S100 = 5050
S100 = 5050
Therefore,
1 + 2 + 3 + … + 99 + 100

5050
