2.INTRODUCTION OF TOPIC

This research is conducted on the basis of growing competition in

mobile Sector. The biggest competitor of mobile sector in Roorkee
is “Reliance Jio & Airtel”. This Research is conducted to analyze
who is better and why?

The telecommunication is the biggest factor in influencing the speed of life

in the modern age. Today we can get connection with any corner of
world through the push button of computer, with the small mobile phone
we can sent not only the massages but also a secret document. As we
know that there is a positive view behind any mention that it should be
helpful in the development of society. But humans have diverted mentality
some of them of positive view and some of them of negative view.
Where use any invention for the welfare of society but some uses for the
satisfaction their disturbed mentality and to earn more and more money
whether it may be harmful for the society. They infringe the norms of
society and their behavior is condemned as antisocial, immoral and sinful.

a) CELLULAR MOBILE SERVICES

Cellular is one of the fastest growing and most demanding telecommunication
applications. Today, it represents continuously increasing percentages of new
mobile phone subscription around the world. Currently there are more than
45 million subscribers in worldwide and nearly 50 % of those subscribers
are located in USA. It is forecasted that cellular system using a digital
technology will become universal method of telecommunication. By the year
2005, forecasters predict that there will be more than 100 million cellular
subscribers worldwide. Global system for Mobile Telecommunication is globally
accepted standard for digital cellular communication. GSM is the name of a
standardization group established in 1982 to create a common European
mobile telephone standard that would formulate the specifications for a pan-
European mobile cellular radio system operating at 900 MHz It is estimated
that many country outside of Europe will join the GSM partnership.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are two of the largest telecommunications
companies in India. Both have had a significant impact on the industry in
recent years. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the two companies
and compare their performance in terms of key metrics such as subscribers,
revenue, and profitability.
Reliance Jio, since its launch in 2016, has been the clear leader in terms
of subscriber growth in the Indian telecom market. The company has over
41 crore subscribers (a decrease since the previous year), still making it
the largest telecom operator in India. Bharti Airtel has around 49.1 crore
subscribers (beating Reliance Jio this year in terms of subscriber growth). In
terms of revenue and profit, Bharti Airtel generated consolidated revenue of
₹1.16 lakh crore and EBITDA of ₹5.8 lakh crore in the fiscal year 2021-
22. Reliance Jio, on the other hand, generated revenue of more than ₹1
lakh crore and EBITDA ₹40 thousand crore in the same fiscal year.
Profitability is another area where the two companies differ. Bharti Airtel
has been consistently profitable in recent years, with net profit of ₹4,254
crore in the fiscal year 2022. Reliance Jio, on the other hand, has yet to
turn a profit, which I couldn’t find since they don’t have it on the
Reliance Industries’ Annual report for any of the years since 2017 (I
wonder why).

While Reliance Jio has been the clear leader in subscriber growth, Bharti
Airtel has been more successful in revenue and profitability. However, it’s
important to remember that Reliance Jio is a relatively new player in the
market and is still in the process of building its network infrastructure,
which may explain its lack of profitability. Respect where it is due, both
Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have played a major role in shaping the
Indian telecommunications market, and their ongoing competition is likely to
continue to drive innovation and benefit consumers in the years to come.
2. INTRODUCTION OF COMPANIES

HISTORY

The company was registered in Ambawadi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat on 15 February 2007 as Infotel
Broadband Services Limited (IBSL). In June 2010, Reliance Industries (RIL) bought a 95%
stake in IBSL for ₹4,800 crore (equivalent to ₹91 billion or US$1.1 billion in 2020). Although
unlisted, IBSL was the only company that won broadband spectrum in all 22 circles in India in
the 4G auction that took place earlier that year.[13] Later continuing as RIL's telecom subsidiary,
Infotel Broadband Services Limited was renamed as Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) in
January 2013.[14]

In June 2015, Jio announced that it would start its operations throughout the country by the end
of 2015.[15] However, four months later in October, the company postponed the launch to the first
quarter of the financial year 2016–2017.[16]

Later, in July 2015, a PIL filed in the Supreme Court by an NGO called the Centre for Public
Interest Litigation, through Prashant Bhushan, challenged the grant of a pan-India license to Jio
by the Government of India. The PIL also alleged that the firm was being allowed to provide
voice telephony along with its 4G data service, by paying an additional fee of just ₹165.8
crore (US$21 million) which was arbitrary and unreasonable, and contributed to a loss
of ₹2,284.2 crore (US$290 million) to the exchequer.[17][18] The Indian Department of
Telecommunications (DoT), however, explained that the rules for 3G and BWA spectrum didn't
restrict BWA winners from providing voice telephony. As a result, the PIL was revoked, and the
accusations were dismissed.[19]

The 4G services were launched internally on 27 December 2015. [20] The company commercially
launched its 4G services on 5 September 2016, [9] offering free data and voice services until 31
December,[21] which was later extended until 31 March 2017.[22][23] Within the first month, Jio
announced that it had acquired 1.6 crore (16 million) subscribers[24] and has crossed 5 crore (50
million) subscriber mark in 83 days since its launch, [25] subsequently crossing 100 million
subscribers on 22 February 2017.[26] By October 2017, it had about 13 crore (130 million)
subscribers.
NETWORK

Spectrum frequency holding summary

Jio owns spectrum in 850 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands in India's 22 circles, and also owns pan-
India licensed 2,300 MHz spectrum. The spectrum is valid until 2035.[32] Jio also picked up pan-
India licenses in the 700 MHz, 3,500 MHz and 26 GHz spectrum bands in the DoT's 2022 5G
auction.
