WORK IMMERSION

What is work immersion?

Work immersion is a type of experiential learning that allows students to gain practical experience and
apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. It is a program that provides students with an
opportunity to work in a company or organization related to their field of study. Work immersion is
usually required by educational institutions as part of their curriculum to help students develop the
necessary skills and competencies needed to succeed in their chosen career.

In the field of Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), work immersion is an essential component of the

curriculum as it provides students with the opportunity to apply their technical skills in a real-world
setting. For example, students studying culinary arts can work in a restaurant or hotel kitchen, while those
studying automotive technology can work in a car repair shop. Work immersion in TVL helps students
develop their technical skills, learn industry-specific practices, and build their network in their chosen
field.

In the academic field, work immersion is also an important part of the curriculum, especially for courses
related to business, finance, and public administration. Students can work in government agencies, non-
profit organizations, or private companies to gain practical experience and apply their academic
knowledge in a real-world setting. Work immersion in the academic field helps students develop their
critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as gain insights into the challenges
and opportunities of their chosen field.

DAILY JOURNAL
On my first day of immersion, I feel nervous because I wonder if I can do it or if I might make a
mistake because I don’t have experience and I’m a beginner. I was assign to work at MTO (Municipal
Treasurer Office), and I also felt nervous when we introduced to the head or supervisor of the MTO, who
gave us an overview of the office’s functions and responsibilities. The first thing that the head oriented us
are the rules and regulations and also what job we were assign. The moment we talked to the head
manager, I learned about the different types of taxes and how they are collected, as well as the legal and
ethical considerations of handling public funds. I also observed how financial reports and statements are
prepared and reviewed. And as the head manager having a conversation with us, he showed us around the
office and introduced to the employees and they gave us a warm welcome by saying hello and bright
smile.

On the second day of my immersion, brother Harold show and teach me how to digitize. While I
was watching him do his work, I felt nervous because I have no knowledge or experience in using a
laptop, and when Brother Harold asked me if I could digitize, I said “medjo po” and then smile at him. I
had a little trouble when I started calculating taxes, but Kuya Harold told me that it’s okay to make
mistakes as long as I am learning and just starting out.

On the next day, which is my third day working in the Municipal Treasure Office, I learned more
about how to calculate taxes. Also, Brother Harold asked me if it was possible to get the correct digitized,
and then he gave me the one that wasn’t finished being digitized and the correct digitized one was also
obtained, and after that I realized that I can do it better, even though I am a beginner and have no
experience in using a laptop.

On the fourth and fifth day of my immersion, I had the opportunity to assist in the preparation of
financial reports and statements. I learned how to use accounting software to generate reports and how to
ensure accuracy and completeness. I also, accompanied my supervisor to the bank to deposit the collected
taxes. I learned about the procedures and documentation required for depositing public funds. I also
observed how my supervisor communicated with the bank staff and ensured that the deposit was made
without any errors.

During the second week of my work immersion in the Municipal Treasure Office, I had the
opportunity to gain more practical experience in handling public funds.
On the sixth day, I had the opportunity to assist in the preparation of financial reports and
statements for the previous month. I learned how to organize and analyze financial data, as well as how to
ensure that the reports comply with the standards and guidelines set by the government.

The seventh day was spent attending a seminar on tax compliance and updates, where I learned
about the changes and updates in tax policies and regulations, as well as the penalties and consequences
of non-compliance. I also had the chance to network with other professionals in the field and learn from
their experiences and insights.

On the eighth day, I processed and encoded tax payments from different taxpayers. I learned how
to verify the authenticity of the documents and how to ensure that the payments are accurately recorded
and updated in the system. I also observed how my supervisor communicated with the taxpayers and
addressed their concerns and questions.

On the ninth day, I participated in a meeting with other departments to discuss the
implementation of a new system for tax collection and payment. I learned how to collaborate and
coordinate with different stakeholders and how to contribute to the development and improvement of the
office’s processes and procedures.

Today is my last day of work immersion in the Municipal Treasure Office. I had a meeting with
my supervisor to discuss my performance and provide feedback. I shared my insights and reflections on
the experience and how it has helped me develop my skills and knowledge in accounting and finance.
Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked in the Municipal Treasure Office and gained
practical experience in handling public funds.

Overall, the second week of my work immersion has been a valuable learning experience that has
broadened my horizons and enriched my understanding of the importance of public finance management.
Also, I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked in the Municipal Treasure Office and gained
practical experience in handling public funds.
