TITLE: Maintenance procedure for ED34AXXX GMT BATTERY.

1. Purpose

Indicate how to check and replace the lithium cell used for
back-up of the GMT.

This is a function within the DFDAU, activated when this unit

is not powered in the A/C.

Maintenance Aspects:

The GMT and date are managed by he internal circuit and

controlled by the basic part of the DFDAU. The built-in
test of the complete equipment includes a test of the
inoernal clock but not the safeguard of the GNT.

That means a lower level of battery doesn’t set the FDAU

BITE to fault.

The safeguard of the date/GMT is only in service while

the FDAU is in the rack (A/C wiring shown in block
diagram). The safeguard capability lasts ten years
providing the mean ambient temperature is 40°C and the
A/C is powered 15 hours a day.

B. Equipment/ingredients required
- Lithium battery repair kit SFIM P/N 360-03990-000.
- Standard electromechanic’s tool kit.
- Electronic multimeter (DC voltage measurement).
- Soldering iron with digital display - isolated by
transformer with an earth pin.
- Unsoldering unit.
- Hot air generator.
- Cotton clothing, protective goggles, protective gloves.
- Unsoldering braid, tin/lead 60/40 solder.
- Cement H6109 (kit).
- FORANE 141bNGX solvent (or equivalent products in local
supply).

C. Check of GMT safeguard

Check the GNT value with the FDEP (if installed in the
A/C cockpit) or with the DMT-PC:
Option FDEP
The high order thunibwheel (on the left) must be in a
position other than 8 or 9. Push the button “Update” and
GMT [hours-rninutesj is displayed for 10 seconds on the
FDEP.

Option DMT-PC
(All functions and operations with this
equipment are
described in the SFIM Operator’s Handbook
AV 99/06).
• Connect the DMT-PC to the test connector
on the DFDAU.
The link is via a specific cable:
P/N 360—03432—100 for DMT—PC kit 360—00670—3xx
.
P/N 360-03432-000 for the previous version
of DMT-PC
-

kit 360—00670—2xx, 360—00670-000 or 360—

00670—100.
• Run the DMT-PC program with ED34Axxx optio
n.
• In the main menu, press “2” key to select the sub-menu
AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE.
• Press “9” key to select the DISPLAY OF PARAMETERS
function.
• Enter the alpha call-up label GMT and
read the value
framed in 4 digits HHMM (HH for hour
s and “I for
minutes>
— Switch off the DFDAU.
—> After a lapse of at least one minute, chec
value again, it should be incremented k the GMT
by one minute.

0. Check of the lithium cell (DFDAU not energised)

— If the DMT-PC is used, disconnect it
from the DFDAU.
— Take a multimeter (DC voltage meas
urement> and check
the value of Lithium Cell Voltage:
Measurement points are pin 15 (hot
point) and pin 33
(cold point) on the test connector.
The nominal value is 3.0 volts DC for
the lithium cell but
the measurement point is taken
after a rectifier diode
with a threshold voltage of about
0.6 V.
That means if the measured value
is below 2.3 volts, the
lithium cell must be replaced.

6) To improve the efficiency of the protected work
station, it is advisable to eliminate non-conducting
(insulating) materials.

F. Check that the workbench and the tools are

absolutely
clean throughout the disassembly operation.
— Undo the 4 captive screws.
— Remove the front panel assembly.
— Remove the board ALATR28/2 from its connector

the base circuit (mother board on rear panel)

CAUTION: Since January 1996, the type of lithii.u

n cell has
changed and also the type of support, due
to the
polarity inversion of the battery.

That means there are two options for replacement of this

component:
1. The DFDAU was manufactured before Januar
y 1996 and
except for a maintenance operation in THE
SFIM Repair
Station after this date, the battery holder should be
ORANGE coloured.
2. The DFDAU was manufactured or repaired
after January
1996, the battery holder should be GREY colour
ed.
