29. Structure of the Programme and Pattern of Internal/External Evaluation

CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM (For UG courses)

A choice-based credit system set in place by the University is proving to be

the ideal method to narrow down the gap between education and employment. The
system facilitates students to move from one discipline to another. A student can choose
from a variety of courses as electives, get due credits and qualify for graduation. While
core courses are part of the main discipline, the electives come from many other
disciplines.

As per the draft regulations of the CBCS for UG and PG courses, the CBCS is a
flexible system of learning. ‘Credit’ defines the quantum of contents/syllabus prescribed for
a course and determines the number of hours of instruction required. The CBCS permits
students to learn at their own pace, choose electives from a wide range of elective courses
offered by the departments of the affiliated Colleges, undergo additional courses and
acquire more than the required number of credits, adopt an interdisciplinary approach in
learning, and make the best use of the expertise of available faculty. In the case of UG
courses, a student would have to pass in all the papers and practicals by earning 140
credits in all five parts for being declared passed in the whole examination. In the case of
PG courses, a candidate shall be eligible for the award of degree only if he/she has passed
the examinations of all the four semesters, earning 90 credits.

Common Guidelines for CBCS

 Each paper carries an internal component.

 There is a separate passing minimum of 40% for external and overall components.

 Theory - external : internal = 75:25.

 Internal assessment: 25 marks is allocated in the following manner:

The average of the best two tests from three compulsory tests
20 marks
(Each test is of one hour duration)
Assignment 05 marks

Total 50 marks

 Project - external : internal = 80:20; Project report evaluation and viva-voce will be
conducted by both the external examiner and the project guide.
 For Skill Based Subjects, external: internal assessment shall be 50:50. The break up
internal is 25 marks for test and 25 marks for practical/field work/project work.

23
 For Non major elective: a) Option should be given to the students in the selection of
non- major elective; b) The subjects other than the major and allied shall be opted by
the students as non major electives.

 External Examination will be of three hours duration for all the theory papers.

 The Question pattern for the theory papers are as follows:

Earth Day (22-04-2022)

Earth Day was marked on 22-04-2022 in the Physics Laboratory.

Dr.S.J.Balamurugan, Head, Department of Physics, Tirunelveli Dakshina Mara Nadar
Sangam College, T.Kallikulam delivered Informative speech on the awareness of the
Earth Day. He spoke the following “Every
year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern
environmental movement in 1970.”
EARTH DAY
Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world,
marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human
behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.
Now, the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency, as
the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day. As the
awareness of our climate crisis grows, so does civil society mobilization, which is
reaching a fever pitch across the globe today. Disillusioned by the low level of
ambition following the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015 and frustrated with
international environmental lethargy, citizens of the world are rising up to demand
far greater action for our planet and its people. The social and cultural environments
we saw in 1970 are rising up again today — a fresh and frustrated generation of
young people is refusing to settle for platitudes, instead taking to the streets by the
31
millions to demand a new way forward. Digital and social media are bringing these
conversations, protests, strikes and mobilizations to a global audience, uniting a
concerned citizenry as never before and catalyzing generations to join together to
take on the greatest challenge that humankind has faced. Earth Day is about —
empowering individuals with the information, the tools, the messaging and form
communities needed to make an impact and drive change.
