1-1 Power, data and connections within the system

Illustration 2 provides a high-level overview of the power, data and coolant connections between the
different components of the Mobile Senographe Essential Acquisition System. The intention of this
illustration is not to detail the low-level theory of each connection, but to highlight the importance of
maintaining the AC mains power to the Generator Cabinet at all times.
From the bold lines it is clear that the AC mains power goes from the van’s Mains Distribution Panel to
the Generator Cabinet, which provides power to the Conditioner Cabinet. The Conditioner Cabinet
provides the Digital Detector with its necessary coolant supply. With the exception of during the
transportation phase, the Conditioner Cabinet must be kept powered on and operating at all the times,
including when the system is in the normal shut-down condition. Therefore, with the exception of during
the transportation phase the Mains Distribution Panel must be switched on at all times in order to ensure
that the Conditioner Cabinet can maintain the required temperature for the Digital Detector.

1-1-1 Different Power Source Scenarios leading into the van to the Mains Distribution Panel
You can use one of two different sources for the power source going to the van:
• Landline (also known as shore power) — This is a power source coming from the Hospital’s central
power system. Power can only be provided to the van when the van is in close proximity to the
hospital site, since it needs to be connected to the landline’s power connections.
• Van Generator — This is a diesel or petrol powered generator that co-exists with the van. Therefore,
if operating the Van Generator can still provide power to the van during transportation when the van
is not in close proximity to the hospital.
An optional van Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS) can exist between the van power source and the
van Mains Distribution Panel. The optional UPS provides protection and regulation of the power source.

1-2 Summary of differences between the Mobile and Stationary systems

In order to accommodate the Mobile Senographe Essential Acquisition System in a van it differs slightly
in design from the Stationary Senographe Essential Acquisition System. The following points summarize
these differences.
1-2-1 Separate Conditioner and Generator Cabinets
The Stationary system consists of a Conditioner and Generator in one cabinet, with push-buttons at the
top of the cabinet, which show the status of and control the power to the Control Station and UPS. The
Mobile system consists of a separate Generator and Conditioner cabinets, where:
• the Generator cabinet contains the generator and system management electronics.
• the same push-buttons are located on the Conditioner cabinet. They are provided for service and
emergency use; they must not be used in normal operation. The on (I) and off (O) power buttons on
the X-ray Console control the state of these push-buttons.
• the Conditioner cabinet includes a conditioner unit (i.e. a combined chiller and dryer) used to control
the detector environment. Close control of the detector environment is essential for reliable
operation.
! Notice:
The Conditioner must be kept powered and operating at all the times, except during transportation,
including when the system is in the normal shut-down condition.
1-2-2 Additional Gantry Transportation Tool
The Stationary system stays in a hospital room, is never transported and therefore does not require a
tool to secure the Gantry head during transportation. The Mobile system is transported between different
sites, and therefore a Gantry Transportation Tool exists to secure the Gantry head during transportation.
1-2-3 Required environmental conditions
The Mobile Senographe Essential Acquisition System contains components that are sensitive to
extreme environmental conditions. During both the operating phase and the transportation phase the
van’s room must maintain the following environmental conditions.
Relative humidity Temperature
(non-condensing
Min. Max.** Min.** Max.**
10% 80% 15°C 35°C
59°F 95°F

** - Temperatures - air conditioning:

- Air conditioning must be provided where necessary to ensure that no part of the equipment
(including the generator cabinet) operates in an ambient temperature exceeding 35°C (95°F) or
below 15°C (59°F).
- For patient comfort, ambient temperatures of 23°C 3°C (73°F ± 5°F) are recommended.
1-2-4 Planned Maintenance Schedule
Planned Maintenance of the system must be performed at least according to the schedule stated in the
Senographe Essential Operator Manual (i.e. every 6 months) or every 8000 KM (5000 miles) (which ever
is sooner).

It is important to remove the Collimator Dust Shield before the Tube Head is in the +0 degrees
position so that you do not risk dropping it on the Image Receptor.
2. Use the first level of the Tube Head control buttons to carefully raise the Tube Head at slow speed so
that the Tube Head and its handles are fully cleared from the jaws of the Gantry Transportation Tool.
Raise the Tube Head high enough so you can easily access the Gantry Transport Tool to remove it.

! Notice:
Do not use the foot pedals to raise the tube head at this stage as the lift motion with the foot pedals
is faster than the Tube Head control buttons.

Image Transfer and Redundancy Solution

Chapter 5 Image Transfer and Redundancy Solution

The Image Transfer and Redundancy Solution (ITRS) consists of:
• a mandatory data redundancy component which ensures data redundancy of images exist in the van
• a transfer component used in cases where the Mobile Senographe Essential Acquisition System is
not connected to the to the hospital network via its wired Ethernet connection during system usage
This chapter describes the workflow practices that you must take to ensure the integrity of your DICOM
images are intact, and never lost.

Illustration 5 provides a high-level overview of how these two components of the ITRS operate with the
Mobile Senographe System. These two components and their respective workflow practices that you
must adopt are described in more detail within 1 Data Redundancy Component on page 34 and 2 Image
Transfer Component on page 35.
Note:
You can only remove DICOM images from the AWS once you have validated that they have been
successfully imported and stored on the hospital PACS without corruption.

Image Transfer and Redundancy Solution

1 Data Redundancy Component

A computer running the ITRS is mandatory so that data redundancy of images exist in the van.
Illustration 6 illustrates how the data redundancy component is implemented in the Mobile Senographe
Essential System. While performing examinations in the Van, the ITRS computer is powered up and its
local Ethernet port is connected to the external Ethernet port of the AWS (either directly or via a switch in
the van). Data redundancy between the AWS and the ITRS Computer is achieved because Autodelete is
set to OFF (so the images are kept on the AWS) and Auto Push is set to ON (so that the images are
copied to the ITRS Computer).

AWS

Autodelete = OFF

For data redundancy to exist the following conditions must exist:

• The AWS Software must be configured to auto-push images to the ITRS Computer (i.e. Auto Push
must be set to ON).
• The AWS Software must be configured to keep the images on the AWS once the images have been
pushed to the ITRS Computer (i.e. Autodelete must be set to OFF).
Therefore, at the start of each working day, ensure that the AWS is configured with Auto Push set to ON
and Autodelete set to OFF. The Autodelete and Auto Push statuses appear at the top right of the AWS
Browser. If the Autodelete status is set to ON, then change it to OFF from within the Autodelete section
of the MedAppPrefs window. If the Auto Push status is set to OFF, then change it to ON from within the
Auto Push section of the MedAppPrefs window.
The ITRS is a DICOM-compliant system, but can experience some data corruption at times. Therefore,
you must regularly check the integrity of the DICOM images transferred to the ITRS Computer to ensure
that they are not corrupt. To do this view the DICOM images on the ITRS Computer after each
examination is complete. If the DICOM images are corrupted on the ITRS Computer, then transfer them
manually to the ITRS Computer by either dragging them onto icon for the ITRS Computer located in the
Network Panel at the top left of the AWS Browser, or by using the Network Push button located under
the list.

2 Image Transfer Component

The transfer component can be used in cases where the AWS is not connected to the Hospital LAN.

Essential System.

If Laptop

To permanently store the DICOM images on the hospital PACS mainframe, there are two different
methods to import the DICOM images from the ITRS Computer to the hospital PACS mainframe:
• If the ITRS Computer is a laptop then it can be connected to the PACS mainframe via the hospital
LAN to import the DICOM images via the hospital LAN.
• If the ITRS Computer is a desktop (or a laptop with no access to the hospital LAN), the ITRS
Computer is used to burn the DICOM images to DVD-ROM. Then the DVD-ROM is used to locally
import the DICOM images onto the hospital PACS mainframe.
The ITRS is a DICOM-compliant system, but can experience some data corruption at times. Therefore,
you must follow the principles listed below to ensure that your DICOM images are never lost:
• If you have created a DVD-ROM with the DICOM images on the ITRS Computer, you must check the
integrity of the DICOM images on the DVD-ROM to ensure that they are not corrupt before you
attempt to import them on the hospital PACS mainframe. To do this view the DICOM images on the
ITRS Computer after you have created the DVD-ROM.
• Once you have imported the DICOM images to the hospital PACS mainframe (via the laptop
connected to the hospital LAN or DVD-ROM), you must verify that the imported DICOM images on
the hospital PACS are not corrupt.
Once you have validated that the imported DICOM images are stored without corruption on the
hospital PACS you can remove them from the AWS.
