Factoring polynomials Using Common Monomial Factor

Exmples:
1. Factor 5n + 25 =
Solution: factor each term 5n = 5 • n (Note: • is a symbol for multiplication)
25 = 5 • 5 Common factor is 5
Thus, the factored form is 5(n + 5)

2. Factor 6x2y2 – 9xy3 =

Solution: factor each term 6x2y = 2 • 3 • x • x • y • y (Note: • is a symbol for multiplication)

9xy3 = 3 • 3 • x • y • y • y Common factor is 3, x , y and y
