In this lesson, learners will be able to find the percentage or rate or percent in a given problem.
Three Important Terms/Elements to define when finding a percentage.
1. Rate (R) – is the number compared to 100. It is usually has either a percent sign (%) or word “percent” with it.
2. Percentage (P) – is the number or amount that represents a part of a whole.
3. Base (B) – is the number or amount that represents a whole or the entire amount.

Activity 3: Problem
Christeen’s daily allowance is Php 40.00. She spends Php 12.00 for snacks. This is 30% of her daily allowance.
In this case let us identify which is the percentage, the rate and the base. But first let’s answer the following
questions.
1. Who spends Php 12.00 for snacks?
2. How much is the daily allowance of Christeen?
B. Development (Day 2)
Christeen’s daily allowance is Php 40.00. She spends Php 12.00 for snacks. This is 30% of her daily
allowance.
In this case let us identify which is the percentage, the rate and the base.
We can say that: 30% of Php 40.00 is Php 12.00.
In this case you can easily identify which is the percentage, the rate, or the base. We let P be the
percentage, R be the rate, and B be the base.
Php 12.00 is percentage (P) – It is the number or the amount that represents
30% is the rate (R) – It is the number compared to 100. It usually has either a percent sign (%) or
the word “percent” with it.
Php 40.00 is the base (B) – It is the number that represents the whole or the entire amount.
Activity 5:
Direction: Solve each problem.
1. What percent of 200 is 50?
2. What percent of 10 is 6?
3. 200 is what percent of 200?
4. 25% of what number is 100
5. 28 is 4% of what number?
C. Engagement (Day 4)
Activity 6:
A. Direction: Solve each problem.
1. 1 is what percent of 10? ______
2. What percent of 80 is 56? ______
3. What is 30% of 20? _______
4. 6 is 75% of what number? ______
5. 8 is 20% of what number? ______
