EFFECTS OF IONS ON THE CONTRACTION OF THE MUSCLE
OF GASTROPOD MOLLUSC
ABSTRACT
1. A satisfactory physiological solution fo r Stropho-
cheilus oblongus, musculus according to the am ount
of potassium ; calcium , m agnesium , sulfat, ions si
m ilar to those dialysed from the blood of sam e gas
tropod, is presented, m easured in g/L w ith anhydrous
salts : NaCl : 1.356; KC1 : 0.178 — CaCl 2: 0.688 — MgCl2 :
1.638 — Na.,S04 : 0.135 — N aH C 03 : 0.714 — Glicose: 3.6.
If the solution is destined to be stim ulated by ACh, M gC l2
m ust be added and increasing the content of glicose to a
to tal of 12.6 g/L.
2. Afinity betw een m agnesium and the cardiac fibers
is studied.
3. N orm al contraction of the penis re tra c to r m uscle
( p .r .m .) w ith b u t 35% of total sodium existing in the
blood occurs.
4. Decreasing of th e am plitude of the contractions
w ith 5 m E q./L of Sodium is registred.
5. Lacking Sodium in the solution does not allow
the p .r .m . to contract w hen stim ulated by ACh, 10—B.
