Dynamo Academy srl Impresa Sociale,
pursuing philanthropic values, promotes
the sharing of concrete Common Good
projects, through a network that con-
nects companies driven by a responsi-
ble leadership with public bodies, third
sector, universities and research insti-
tutes. In particular, Dynamo Academy
provides education, advisory and expe-
riential learning programmes to support
companies and top managers in the
creation of shared value, with the aim
of facing today’s challenges, combining
business results, social impact and sus-
tainability.
The Dynamo Camp Association was
founded in 2007 by the Dynamo Foun-
dation, a venture philanthropy foun-
dation born in 2003 from an idea of
Vincenzo Manes, who is its Chairman.
At an operational level, the Associa-
tion is guided by Maria Serena Porcari,
Vice-Chairman of the Dynamo Camp
Non-Profit Association and Executive
Board Member of the Dynamo Founda-
tion.
Dynamo Camp was inaugurated in the
summer of 2007 and is the only Italian
recreational therapy structure intended
to host children, whose lives are com-
promised by illness, through play and
sports activities and an experience of
relaxation, fun and social relations in a
protected natural environment. Dyna-
mo Camp is in fact a camp designed
for children suffering from serious and
chronic pathologies, mainly onco-hae-
matological, neurological and diabetic.
KME is one of the world’s largest man-
ufacturers of copper and copper alloy
products and has a worldwide distribu-
tion network. Economic, social, environ-
mental sustainability and responsibility
are features characterizing the model
of industry KME pursues. Consequently,
the company focuses on stakeholders’
needs resulting into a transparent and
thorough communication of its activi-
ties. Excellence and innovation are not
just applied to production but also to
the wellbeing of employees and the
area the company is based in.
YAC is an organizer of design and ar-
chitectural competitions for young ar-
chitects and designers, recent gradu-
ates and students. YAC pursues several
goals: firstly, the organizer aims to
encourage design-related research by
regularly providing tangible architectur-
al and urban planning projects to inspire
stakeholders and generate solutions to
support and provide physical places for
increasingly volatile and dynamic hu-
man activities.
According to YAC, architecture is the
discipline that creates and shapes the
places of human action.

Ethical Architecture Award is the project aiming to
support and award an ethic approach to architecture
and design.

Brief
In a world where the gap in the distribution of resources
is dramatically widening, where social issues multiply on
a daily basis, there is an urgent need to promote a cul-
ture for human beings, their rights and dignity.

Architecture is one of the main disciplines that can

favor wellbeing and social equity by giving identity to
places and providing human beings with services and
beauty. Therefore, to reaffirm the culture of an ethic and
social architecture- namely an architecture for the human
being- “Ethical Architecture Award” was established.

Ethical Architecture Award is Dynamo’s and Yac’s proj-

ect aiming at supporting and awarding an ethic ap-
proach to architecture and design in order to honor
young people and professionals whose work favors the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, Dunkerque

Competition
topic
Whatever the selected category, the competition re-
quires the submission of particularly valuable social
projects or projects with a positive impact on the com-
munities they were designed for, for example:

• architectures to redevelop suburbs or socially com-

plex contexts;
• architectures in emerging countries;
• healthcare architectures;
• architectures for education and culture;
• architectures for fragile user groups (disabled peo-
ple, elderly people, children);
• emergency architectures;
• particularly environmentally virtuous architectures;
• redevelopments, interventions to return the aban-
doned heritage to the community;
• highly socially responsible public facilities;
• social housing;
• public space;
• particularly valuable installations or buildings for the
topics of the competition.

Anne
Lacaton
Anne Lacaton was born in France in 1955. Graduated from the
School of Architecture of Bordeaux in 1980 and got her Diploma
in Urban Planning at the university of Bordeaux in 1984. She has
been a Professor at ETH Zurich since 2017 and a Visiting profes-
sor at the University of Madrid, Master Housing since 2007, at
EPFL Lausanne, 2004, 2006, 2010-11 and 2017, at the University
of Florida: Ivan Smith Studio in 2012, at theUniversity of NY-Buf-
falo: Clarkson Chair in 2013, at the Pavillon Neuflize OBC-Palais
de Tokyo, Paris, in 2013-2014, at Harvard GSD: Kenzo Tange
2011 & Design critic 2015, at Sassari University in Alghero 2014
& 2015, at TU Delft, sem 2016-17. Jean Philippe Vassal was born
in Casablanca, Morocco in 1954. Graduated from the School of
Architecture of Bordeaux in 1980, he worked as urban planner in
Niger (West Africa) from 1980 to 1985. He has been a professor
at the UDK Berlin since 2012 and a visiting professor at the TU
in Berlin (2007-11), at the Peter Behrens School of architecture
in Düsseldorf 2005, at EPFL Lausanne in 2010-11, at the Pavillon
Neuflize OBC-Palais de Tokyo, Paris, in 2013-2014, at Sassari
University in Alghero 2014 & 2015.
Kazuyo
Sejima
Kazuyo Sejima (born in 1956, Ibaraki, Japan) has studied archi-
tecture at the Japan Women’s University. In 1987, she founded
her own studio Kazuyo Sejima & Associates. Then in 1995, to-
gether with Ryue Nishizawa, she founded SANAA. SANAA’s main
works include the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in
Kanazawa, the Rolex Learning Center (Ecole Polytechnique Fed-
erale de Lausanne) and the Louvre-Lens. In 2010, Kazuyo Seji-
ma was appointed director of the Venice Biennale. In the same
year, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA were the
recipients of the Pritzker Prize. She is currently Professor at the
Polytechnic University of Milan, the Yokohama Graduate School
of Architecture (Y-GSA). Moreover, she is teaching at the Japan
Women’s University and the Osaka University of Arts as visiting
professor.
Anupamaa
Kundoo
Anupama Kundoo’s architectural practice was founded in 1990. It
is based on a wide research and experimentation of materials to
achieve architecture with a low environmental impact and social
and economic advantages. Kundoo is Professor at the Potsdam
School of Architecture in Germany. She graduated in 1989 at
the Sir JJ College of Architecture at the University of Mumbai.
In 2008, she obtained her PhD at the TU Berlin. Her work has
been exhibited twice at the Biennale of Architecture of Venice in
2012 and 2016 and in a monographic exhibition at the Louisiana
Museum of Modern Art, Denmark in 2020. She is the author of
“Roger Anger: Research on Beauty / Recherche sur la Beauté,
Architecture 1958-2008”, published in Berlin by Jovis Verlag in
2009. Anupama Kundoo is William B. and Charlotte Shepherd
Davenport Visiting Professor for spring 2020 at the Yale School
of Architecture.

Pantaleo
Raul Pantaleo is an Italian architect, born in Milano, graduat-
ed from the Faculty of Architecture in Venice. He is one of the
co-founder of “TAMassociati”, a practice specializes in IMPACT
DESIGN. Since 2019 Professor at the architecture faculty of
Trieste. Some of the current and completed projects include:
The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery for Emergency NGO in
Sudan (2013-Winner of the AGA KHAN AWARD FOR ARCHITEC-
TURE, Children Surgery Centre for Emergency NGO in Uganda
with Renzo Piano; healthcare buildings in Darfur, Sudan; Central
African Republic, Sierra Leon, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kenya, Sene-
gal, Rwanda and Uganda. In in 2014 with TAMassociati- BEST
ITALIAN ARCHITECT OF THE YEAR; in 2016- CURATORIAL TEAM
OF THE ITALIAN PAVILION at the 15th International Architecture
Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
Vincenzo
Manes
Enzo Manes began his career in private equity, becoming one of
the leading players in Italy. He is the founder and president of
Intek Group, a holding company listed on the Milan Stock Ex-
change. The Group controls stakes in KME AG (industrial field),
i2Capital Partners Sgr S.p.A. (private equity, hedge funds and
real estate), Ergycapital S.p.A. (renewable energies) and Culti
(a company operating in the production and distribution of
high-quality home fragrances). In 2006, with the acquisition of
KME, Enzo took on the role of industrial entrepreneur, with the
responsibility for one of the world’s leading groups in the copper
and derivatives processing industry. The company has 12 plants
operating between Europe and China, a consolidated turnover of
approximately EUR 1.7 billion (2016) and 3800 employees. Over
the last twenty years, Enzo has been increasingly committed to
the development of the Third Sector. First as a venture philan-
thropist and then taking the initiative directly as a social entre-
preneur. In 2003, he founded Fondazione Dynamo and in 2007
Dynamo Camp, a reality based on the mountains near Pistoia
that welcomes every year almost 1300 children and adolescents
suffering from serious pathologies, and provides them with
recreational therapies to help them cope with both illness and

recovery.

Architects that have distinguished themselves in the
competition will be invited to receive an award and
present their work during the “Ethical Architecture
Award” award ceremony. Dynamo and YAC thought of
this event as a major international moment to share ar-
chitectural contents with ethic purposes. The renowned
jurors of the competition will take part in this event too
together with personalities of the non-profit and archi-
tectural field.

The location
The award ceremony will be held at Dynamo Camp, the
great social project promoted by the industrial group
KME, which is part of the largest group of social enter-
prises in Italy. Dynamo Camp is the ideal location to re-
flect on humanitarian architecture since it is the place
where therapeutical needs are combined with complex
and articulate social purposes that can be met also
through architectural disciplines. In one of the symbol-
ic places of accessible and therapeutical architecture
(Dynamo Camp aims at providing holiday experiences
for children with serious illnesses or severe disabilities)

about the social dimension of architecture.

 How to register

1. The registration procedure shall be carried out accord-
ing to the online process described below.
2. The registration steps are consequential: it is not pos-
sible to complete any of the steps described below without
having completed the previous ones.
a. Team registration:
• access the website: ethicalarchitectureaward.it/login;
• fill in all required fields with complete and correct infor-
mation;
• once the registration procedure is completed, the sys-
tem will automatically access the team reserved area.
b. Choice of the competition category:
• select the desired competition category (“built” if you
are applying for built projects, “imagined” if you are ap-
plying for unbuilt projects). It is possible to participate in
both categories by registering two different teams.
c. Team members’ registration:
• add team members by filling in all the required fields
thoroughly and truthfully;
d. Add project details:
• fill in the required fields in the “Project Details” form, in-
cluding a minimum 1000 character description, as de-
scribed below in the section “Materials”.
e. Upload of Materials:
• upload the materials following the wizard;
• repeat such procedure for all materials required in the
competition brief.

Texts must be brief and written in English. Materials can-

Rules
1. Premises
1.1. This Regulation includes the rules that regulate the
Competition, as defined below from users’ registration
on YAC srl’s website to the definition and announce-
ment of the Winners and subsequent adjudication of
the Prizes to the Winners;
1.2. The Competition is not, in any way, an event in accor-
dance with Article 6 of the Italian D.P.R. 430/2001 and
the publication of the related Rules is not an offer to
the public. By registering on YAC srl’s website all users
fully acknowledge and accept the Rules of the Com-
petition;
1.3. This Regulation applies the following Definitions here-
by described in the section “Definitions” or quoted in
the text of the Regulation:
• “Organizer of the Competition” or “Organizer”: YAC
Srl based in Bologna, Via Borgonuovo n. 5, VAT code

• "Partner": KME ITALY SPA, Via Saviane 6, P.IVA: IT

2. General rules
2.1. Participants shall comply with the timeline and the
procedures to register;
2.2. Participants shall comply with the instructions regard-
ing required Materials;
2.3. Participants can join the competition either individu-
ally or with a Team (according to the ownership of the
project);
2.4. Participants (including when part of a team) can be
students, graduates, freelance architects. It is not
necessary to be experts of architectural disciplines or
members of architectural associations;
2.5. There are no restrictions regarding the maximum num-

details solely to improve the fulfillment of the Compe-
tition. In this case, Participants will be noticed within a
reasonable time frame through all the Organizer’s me-
dia channels;
2.16. The Organizer is not responsible for web malfunction-
ing, technical difficulties or failure to receive or upload
Materials. It is highly recommended to complete the
registration and upload procedures well ahead the giv-
en deadlines; Participants are invited to notify the Or-

3. Ineligibility
3.1. Any Participant - together with his or her Team - can
be excluded from the Competition when:
a. The submitted Material is not written in English;
b. The submitted Material is incomplete or inconsistent
to the criteria included in the chapter “MATERIALS”;
c. The Material is not submitted according to the dead-
lines or the procedures of the Competition;
d. Team members try to contact one or more Jurors for
matters relating to the competition. In this case, Par-
ticipants and their Teams will be automatically disqual-
ified;
e. Participants have work or family relationships with one
or more members of the Jury or Partner;
f. Participants are not owners or authors of the submit-
ted Material or parts of such project; they will be ex-
cluded together with their Team.
3.2. On any circumstances of exclusion that involve ele-
ments of interpretation, the decision of the jury, ex-
pressed by the majority, shall prevail.
4. Notes about materials
4.1. By taking part in this Competition and accepting the
Rules, Participants recognize, from now on, to the Or-
ganizer the non-exclusive right to: i) publish Materials
or part of Materials in any way or form and with any
means of communication and/or support, including on-
line platforms, social media channels and printed pub-
lications; ii) disseminate Materials or part of Materials
in any way or form and with any means of communica-
tion and/or support, including online platforms, social
media channels and printed publications;
4.2. By taking part in this Competition and accepting the
Rules, the Participants awarded with a prize money or
a mention (projects receiving an honorable mention)
undertake, from now, on to provide, if needed, further
digital material (i.e., 3D models) regarding the project
to help the Organizer better showing the results of the
Competition;
4.3. Materials shall be the outcome of the intellectual ac-
tivity of Participants: works and/or materials that do
not comply with these features must not be submit-
ted. Therefore, Participants agree to indemnify and
hold the Organizer and Partner harmless from any cost
or damage connected with the infringement of any
third-party intellectual property right. By taking part in
this Competition and accepting the Rules, Participants
declare to be authors (and/or co-author in the event
the Team comprises more members) of the uploaded
Materials;
4.4. Participants of the Competition guarantee the submit-
ted Materials do not infringe, in any way, the industri-
al and intellectual property right of third parties and
commit to hold the Organizer harmless from any con-
nected request that might arise from third parties.
5. Privacy and treatment of
personal data
5.1. The processing of Participants’ personal data will be
carried out by the Organizer for the sole purpose of
the participation in the Competition and distribution of
the Prizes in compliance with the applicable regulation
ex art.13 EU Reg. 2016/679. We invite all competitors
to read it carefully;
5.2. Participants will be held accountable for the data - in-
cluding personal data - they provide. The Organizer
does not assume any responsibility for wrong data
provided. In any case, according to privacy policies,
the Organizer has the right to verify Participants’ per-
sonal data by requesting a copy of an identity docu-
ment that reports the same data entered for the regis-
tration;
5.3. The Organizer will not provide the Partner with per-
sonal data provided by Participants in the Competition
unless there are different, specific and prior agree-
ments between the Parties;
5.4. The Organizer and Partner are not responsible for Par-
ticipants’ false data provision.
6. Prizes adjudication
6.1. The publication of the results according to the timeline
of the Competition has to be considered a provisional
publication. It shall be bound by the verification of the
requisites defined by the Competition;
6.2. Once the results have been published, the Organizer
reserves the right to collect and verify a copy of the
identity cards of the Winners and the papers signed by
the Winners as requested by the Organizer;
6.3. Prizes will be awarded after verifying the identity of
the Winners and after they sign a self-declaration cer-
tifying that they fully accept the terms of the Com-
petition and the declarations of the transfer of rights
regarding Materials and indemnities required by the
Organizer and/or Partner for the use of such Material.
7. Competent court and applicable
law
7.1. The Italian law regulates the Rules of this Competition.
Any controversy that might arise shall be of exclusive
competence of the Court of Bologna.
