Dear Sir / Madam

PROPOSED ADATIVE RE-USE OF TINA BRIDGE AND TSITSA BRIDGE

The ECPHRA BE PRA Committee at their meeting held on the 07 August 2020 scrutinised the merits
of the submission. The following discussion and decision were noted:

Discussion:
• A detailed submission had been made by THE BRIDGE +LIFESTYLE PRIMARY CO-OP
(THE BRIDGE LIFESTYLE) dated October 2018;
• The applicant assumed ECPHRA was the owner of the two bridges and was requesting a 30
year lease;
• The applicant proposed the adaptive re-use of the two bridges as tourist sites;
• The two lattice girder bridges were both Cape Colony PWD wagon bridges and were both
significant heritage structure – installed under the direction of Joseph Newey Engineer;
• Both bridges were in close proximity to the N2 and were almost certainly on SANRAL or
STATE land;

Decision:
• It was accepted in principle that the bridges could be adaptively re-used, provided any
changes was sensitively done and respected the heritage;
• The existing designs were not particularly sensitive, and the applicant would be advised to
consult a heritage architect for advice;
• The applicant would need to prepare and submit revised proposals that respected the bridges
for consideration by the committee;
• The applicant would need to clarify the ownership of the land on which the two bridges stood
before reverting;

Please contact the Manager if you have any queries in this regard.

Your sincerely
