Saudi-Iran Peace Agreement and Global Response

A seven years long rivalry severed by Saudi Arabia in 2016 after the attack on the Saudi
embassy in Tehran, surprisingly turned out to be a friendly agreement as China intervened into
the matter. The Chinese President and Communist Party General-Secretary Xi Jinping brokered
Saudi-Iran peace deal on March 10, 2023. The agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran
comprised of reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The countries
will open the embassies in two months as the Secretary of Iran's Ali Shamkhani, and his Saudi
and Chinese colleagues signed the agreement to replenish diplomatic relations sponsored by
China.

The Saudi- Iran deal is a gigantic diplomatic achievement for China. China presents itself as a
power-broker on the world map, especially in the Middle East and the agreement efficiently
dismissed US intervention in the region. Saudi Arabia has been selling oil to US in exchange for
continual weapons since they are allies. However, Iran became non US ally since Islamic
revolution in late 1970s. China’s fulfilling dream of bringing tranquility in the Middle East has
bothered US much as a new world order is seemed to be emerged by replacing the US as the
dominant as superpower. Also, Biden’s frivolous alliances in the Middle East are possibly
volatile and stand in whirling point since Beijing is placing its feet there. Saudi is also an ally of
US, so the China’s intercede will contribute to the turn down of US credibility in the region
which muddled after the withdrawal of US troops in the Afghanistan.

The five days talks in Beijing were aimed at imparting Saudi Arabia-Iran relations and paving
the way for tranquility and stability in the Middle East. Additionally, it would set an excellent
example for other countries where conflicts and tensions are revolving. Moreover, the peace
between Iran and Saudi Arabia would encourage Muslim countries to sort their differences and
sit for talks with other countries. For instance, Israel and Iran; Egypt and Iran; India and Pakistan
relations are to be focused importantly for world peace. Since 1991, the NATO meddled into Oil
Rich countries caused a number of Muslim countries to bear the brunt of wars. In last 30 years,
Muslims have been displaced due to Petro-dollar Wars. This agreement is a triumph for many
countries except the US. The re-establishment of diplomatic ties between the two major powers
of Middle East's could escort peace in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. Beleaguered by
sectarian conflict, Muslim countries have been in loss since long.

Peace is equally important to China as the peace in region will place the foundation stone for
China’s Built Road Initiative (BRI) project but that peace will not involve the US, whose
existence in the region will now become visibly useless and intrusive even US allies don't rely on
the US anymore. The Chinese Foreign Ministry proclaimed, “The US must end its illegal
military presence on Syrian territory immediately.”

Its however not earlier to say that China is emerging as a new superpower and undoubtedly there
is a colossal impact on world order as Saudi- Iran deal is invites other countries to mend their
relations on negotiations over matters. However, the West is showing much dismay to the peace
agreement due to the peace in Muslim countries would complicate access of West in the oil- rich
regions. Moreover, the scenario might stress the world to unravel the issues of Muslim world,
for instance, the Israel’s occupation on Palestine; Kashmir issue; Nagarno- Karabakh conflict;
Syrian crisis. Additionally, the agreement is suppose to douse the Russia- Ukraine tension and
may prove auspicious to settle the ongoing conflict for peace.

Impacts of Saudi-Iran agreement on the World

The ongoing scenario of Saudi-Iran agreement over deveoping peaceful diplomatic ties has
definitely amazed the world, the US has showed their concerns over the rising influence of China
in the Middle-East as earlier it was highly concerned about the growing influence of China in the
important Asian countries over Built Road Initiative (BRI).

However, Israel shows a concern over Middle-East unity as it feels imsecure about getting
accepted by the Muslim countries. Previously, Israel was recognized by UAE and after Abraham
Accord it seemed a clear sky for Israel to enter into trade with Muslim World. Since, Iran doesn't
accept the existence of Israel and stands by Palestinian Muslims, it would become a far flung
dream for Israel to get acceptance from Muslim World. Moreover, Iran is also looking forward to
emeliorate its relations with Egypt which would irk the super powers of the world.

Opportunities for Muslim World

The world is moving towards peace, so current conflicts in the world including Azerbaijan-
Armenia, Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan, Syrian War and Palestine issue, demand a
peaceful settlement. Muslim world is require to collect under an umbrella with a similar notion
and demand for end persecution of Muslims all over the world.

Additionally, the opportunities to resume diplomatic ties between countries currently

undergoing tensions are also vigilant. Pakistan and India, after Uri attack 2016, shut the
diplomatic terms and India refused to attend SAARC meeting in 2021, this is although huge
demand of time to make a reconciliation between the countries so the Pakistan will be able to
completely entertain its advanced foreign policy.
To conclude this, the Saudi-Iran tension had been a roller- coaster ride which dogged on the
basis dialogues of mutual respect will and a equally acceptable solution. The china seeks for
regional tranquility to resume its BRI project as the revival of Silk Road and it is a huge
achievement for China since it also building itself as the only hegemony. At the same time, the
Muslim Ummah is likely to mingle after reestablishment of diplomatic terms between Saudi
Arabia and Iran which now turned friends out of foe.
