Google Doodle Process Booklet

Student Name:

Due Date:

Marking scheme is attached here.

A Google Doodle is a special Google logo that appears on the Google page
to celebrate holidays and important people, places, and events.

Task: Your task is to create a Google Doodle that celebrates the life

Here is an example:

This Google Doodle celebrates the life of botanist Ynes Mexia, who started

the 150 000 specimens she brought back from her expeditions.

Consider:

★ Can you still make out the word ‘Google’?

★ What images have been included in the logo? Why is this the case?
l

★ How is Ynes Mexia depicted?

★ Do you get a sense of her personality? How is this achieved?

This second example was created to celebrate 2020 International Women’s
Day. View the video and consider the following:

★ What is the message that is being conveyed in the Google Doodle?

★ How is this achieved?

★ Think about your artwork (it should be as original as possible).
★ Are you going to draw your images or find them on the internet (think about
copyright)?

Points to consider Initial planning notes

What ‘story’ will you be trying to
convey in your Google Doodle?

What images will you use to

convey the story?

How will you include the word

GOOGLE?

Will you draw the images or use

images found on the internet?

Have you considered copyright

issues in your planning?

STEP FOUR – DESIGN INSPIRATION

The best way to create a good design is to look at what other designers have done in the past.
Just type ‘google doodle’ in your search engine and see what others have created.
Create a list of some of the features of an effective Google Doodle:

STEP FIVE – DRAFTING YOUR GOOGLE DOODLE

Here is a Google logo template.
★ Use the template to help create your Google Doodle.
★ You may like to print the template and complete the drafts / ‘mock-ups’ by hand.
★ You should attempt to create at least four ‘mock-ups’ in the drafting phase.
★ Things to consider in your ‘mock-up’: a relevant background image, images that
relate to your extraordinary woman, images to use in the word ‘Google’, use of
animations.
★ These ‘mock-ups’ will need to be provided to your teacher as evidence of your
planning for this project.
