Originally a family abode that dates back to the early 19th century and the 2nd oldest structure in
the city, the original structure was later on re-built and restored to its original splendor in mid-
2000 and tastefully converted to an elegant yet simple home hotel. Initially, the hotel was only 4
opened to family and friend referrals to ensure that service is not compromised and that
unparalleled attention and detail are provided to all of our guests.

It was merely an “Bodega” antique shop before it became a hotel. 4

It formally opened its doors to the public in 2009 to non-family and friends extending the same
personalized and exceptional service, warmth and hospitality; treating each and every guest like 4
family.

o Josefina Vda. De lim House/ My Vigan Home

My Vigan Home Hotel is located in Vigan, a 2-minute walk from Calle Crisologo and 275 m from Bantay Bell
Tower. With a garden, the 3-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private
bathroom. The hotel features family rooms. My Vigan Home Hotel is located in Vigan. Padre Burgos House –
National Museum and Crisologo Museum are cultural highlights, and some of the area’s notable landmarks
include Plaza Salcedo and St. Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral.

After Renovation:

The hotel is a two-story structure of Spanish colonial design. The first floor is built of local materials including
brick, mortar, and smooth concrete plaster, while the second floor is made of wood. The original house, which
dates back to the early nineteenth century and is the city’s second oldest structure, was later re-built and
restored to its original beauty in mid-2000 and tastefully turned to an elegant yet modest home hotel.
Initially, the hotel was solely open to family and friend recommendations to ensure that service is not
compromised and that all of our guests receive unrivaled attention and care.

This hotel is brand new, having been refurbished and reconstructed. It has a smooth plaster finish on the
exterior wall. It has a modern/new eaves vent and brick tiles on the roof. Instead of a complete brick wall, its
tall fence has a brick pattern texture, smooth concrete finishing wall. The house is surrounded by large
windows made of wood and apiz shells, with balustered sliding panels in the lower section that allow one to
watch the streets while sitting on the floor. Roofs and eaves are extended to protect against direct sunshine
and rain.

Pepita and Genoveva Pineda House (Don Estevan de Villanueva House) 4

Built around 1740 by the parents of Doña Maria prudenciom/s, the house was given to her by her
parents when she got married to Don Miguel de Villanueva on April 20,1757 interestingly, as
according to the record of Entry at Vigan parish Archives of Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral, 4
Don Miguel de Villanueva was from the City of Manila. All the children of Don Miguel of Villanueva
were born in this house. In 1797, Don Miguel Villanueva was appointed Mayordomo De Vigan till
his death on May 25,1820.
The house was spared from the great fire in 1797; Bishop Pedro Agustin Vlaquier was a witness to
this event, wherein the bishop and the members of the church hierarchy were so worried that the
fire might consume the Cathedral which was under construction and the Archbishop’s Palace. The 4
wind changed its course and almost ate all the houses 100 varas from the Cathedral.

The house was later bequeathed to Don Placido Villanueva, married to Doña Justa Pichay on July
1, 1795. According to the account of Doña Manuela Villanueva Vda. De Florentino, her grandfather
Estevan Villanueva, second to the eldest born in this house on September 2,1797. Don Estevan 4
married Doña Petrona Acosta on October 6,1819. The couple was bless with 8 children, two died
at young age, five of them were girls, and only Leonardo, the youngest was the boy in the family.

Don Estevan Villanueva painted 14 frames in oil canvass the Basi Revolt of the north. 4
The house is presently occupied by Misses Pepita and Genoveva Pineda. 4

Statement of Significance:
o Located in the heart of Vigan City, Hotel Veneto De Vigan offers elegant and comfortable
accommodation with free WiFi access throughout the property. It operates a 24-hour front
desk and provides complimentary parking space on site.

Don Placido Villanueva, who married Doa Justa Pichay on July 1, 1795, later bequeathed the
mansion. According to Doa Manuela Villanueva Vda's account. On September 2,1797, her grandpa
Estevan Villanueva, second to the eldest, was born in this house. On October 6, 1819, Don Estevan
married Doa Petrona Acosta. The couple had eight children, two of whom died while they were
young, five of them were females, and only Leonardo, the youngest, was a boy in the family.
The hotel is within a few minutes’ walk to Vigan Plaza and Heritage Village. Fitted with wooden
flooring, air-conditioned rooms include a wardrobe, clothes rack, electric kettle and a flat-screen TV
with cable channels. Offering shower facility,
the attached bathroom also comes with towels
and free toiletries. The hotel was renovated in
the style of a Vigan-type mansion, brick tiles
are used to build the roof, the house's finishing
wall design is made of local resources such as
brick, mortar, and smooth concrete plaster. Its

rough concrete finishing wall, and an azotea
baluster, which has a series of clay balusters
instead of a complete brick wall.

According to the family of Evaristo Singson, the structure was the family house of their 4
grandfather Anselmo Singson married to Cecilio Tongson
The house was constructed in 1860 by the parents of Don Anselmo Singson. When his parents
died, the house was bequeathed to him. In need of cash, he sold the house to Don Enrique
Quema. A map drawn in 1900, translated from Gregorio Batoon’s “Plano No.1 de la parte centrica
de la ciudad de Vigan, Ylocos Sur”, in Juan Villamor’s “Inedita Cronica de la Guerra Americano- 4
Filipino en of Norte de Luzon, Primera parte” , p.44, showed that the house was owned by Enrique
Quema, north of it being the house of Don Estevan Villanueva. Don Enrique Quema married two
daughters of Don Agritno Singson.
During the Second World War, on December 8, 1945, the Japanese Imperial Army raided the
nearby Post Office at dawn and captured three employees brought them to this house, massacred 4
and dumped their bodies in the well at the back. The house became the headquarters of the
Japanese Imperial Army.
After the war, Don Manuel Singson stayed in the house. In the 1952, the Vigan Chinese Chamber
of Commerce occupied it and transferred the Chinese school located at Crisologo Street. The 4
chamber made transaction with the heirs of Doña Nieves Singson, and it was able to acquire the
property.
Nan-Chong School still operates for the both Chinese and Filipino children. 4

Statement of Significance:
o 16 A Bonifacio Street, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

The mansion was built in 1860 by Don Anselmo Singson's parents. The house was left to him by his
parents after they died. He sold the mansion to Don Enrique Quema because he needed money.
Clay roof tiles consisting of "baked clay" are used to build the roof, the gable roof is made of
galvanized iron sheets, the facility is decorated with moldings and arch entry doors, the school's
finishing wall design is made of local resources such as brick, mortar, and smooth concrete plaster,
however the walls and nearly every other component of the building is already degrading, the house
is constructed entirely of bricks.

Don Manuel Singson resided at the mansion after the war. The Vigan Chinese Chamber of
Commerce occupied it in 1952 and relocated the Chinese school on Crisologo Street. The chamber
was able to acquire the land via a negotiation with the descendants of Do Nieves Singson.

The house is considered, constructed in 1898 by Don Jose Villanueva y Florendo, born on March 17,
1875, son of Don Leonardo Villanueva and Doña Juliana Florendo. He married Doña Maria 4
Florentino y Villanueva on February 6, 1897, who was born on November 24, 1871, daughter of
Don Pedro Florentino and Doña Estefania Villanueva.
The couple was blessed with six children, namely: Doña Maria Villanueva y Florentino, born on
September 12, 1901, married to Don Constantino Rosario. Doña Maria Villanueva and Don
Constantino Rosario were business minded couple who set up chain store in Manila and Vigan, 4
called Manila C.O.D. Department Store simply called the Rosario Bros, Inc and Con-Mar Inc the
other child is Jose Crispin Villanueva y Florentino, born on January 7, 1904.
Don Jose Villanueva was called “Capitan Pepe” by his colleagues and townmates. The Sacristan
Mayor of Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral of Vigan, the late Vicente Prades of San Julian Norte,
accounted that when American forces entered Vigan in 1899, Capitan Pepe riding on white horse 4
bravely met the American forces at Crisologo Street. During American regime. Don Jose or Capitan
Pepe was elected Presidente Municipal. He serves as Presidente Municipal from 1908-1911. In
1916, he ran Governor, won, and became Governor of Ilocos Sur from 1916-1919.
The eldest daughter, Doña Maria when she got married on July 19, 1923, moved out from the
house and transferred to the house of Don Constantino Rosario. Jose Crispin was left in the house
with his parents. When Doña Maria Florentino died on December 2, 1936 at the age of 65, the 4
house was bequeathed to Jose Crispin. The house then became the family house of the Jose Crispin
children. The structure housed the office of “Namarco” until it was abolished by the government.
During the People’s Power in 1986, Hon. Sally Villanueva of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur was appointed as
Office-In-Charge of the Province of Ilocos Sur. Some people rallied in front of Provincial Capitol
barring her entrance as OIC Governor of Ilocos Sur. She then set up her office at the ground floor of 4
the house of Don Jose Villanueva as the Capitol of Ilocos Sur, where she held and transacted
business thereat. Thereafter, repairs were undertaken to restore and retain the same construction
as in 1898. Today, it is the showroom of Mira Furniture.

o Situated in Vigan, 200 metres from Calle Crisologo, Hotel
Mercante features accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a
terrace.
Don Jose Villanueva y Florendo, born on March 17, 1875, son of Don Leonardo Villanueva and Doa
Juliana Florendo, built the mansion in 1898. On February 6, 1897, he married Doa Maria
Florentino y Villanueva, the daughter of Don Pedro Florentino and Doa Estefania Villanueva, who
was born on November 24, 1871.

Before restoration:

The hotel was repaired to restore and retain the same construction as in 1898, it is now Mira
Furniture's showroom.
The hotel features the Spanish colonial style, where it uses Capiz window on wood frame/ Capiz
sliding window on wood frame, constructed with clay roof tiles, hip-gable type roofing, ground floor
constructed with brick masonry and lime plastered painted finish, second floor constructed, wood
plank sidings well burnished and Arch entry doors and moldings.

The house is considered, constructed in 1898 by Don Jose Villanueva y Florendo, born on March 17,
1875, son of Don Leonardo Villanueva and Doña Juliana Florendo. He married Doña Maria 4
Florentino y Villanueva on February 6, 1897, who was born on November 24, 1871, daughter of
Don Pedro Florentino and Doña Estefania Villanueva.

Before Restoration:

This part of the hotel or Cantina Mercante shows a three-storey structure that features a
“Ventanilla”, smaller openings with sliding wood panels, which lets in additional fresh air during the
dry season. Traditionally protected by rows of turned “barandillas” (balusters) made of wood and
later, of iron grilels. It also shows Eaves vents, while more humble dwellings have a plain tongue
and Roof eaves are usually enclosed by a groove board cover. with plain galvanized iron sheets.
Following that, air vents spaced at regular intervals first appeared and quickly evolved with patterns
that are interesting, spanning in style from delicate lace patterns to stylised geometry taken from
nature.
