What are our main arguments: Age is a disease, The longevity mindset, the right to choose. I will expand
on the first two, my second speaker will go in detail about the last one.

Ultimately, aging is a disease—a disease that many of the most powerful people on the planet believe
can be slowed, stopped, even reversed.

The global population is ageing. Life expectancy has increased to 70 years or more in many countries. In
2020, for the first time in history, individuals aged 60 or older outnumbered children under the age of
five. These remarkable gains are due to improved public health, better nutrition, better healthcare and,
most recently, employing technological innovations, big data, and artificial intelligence to improve
healthy life expectancy and meet the demands of an ageing population.

An aging population puts pressure on the economy because as people age, their productivity decreases
and their reliance on the health service goes up. It’s nobody’s fault but getting older increases the
probability of getting serious diseases that reduce quality of life and are expensive to treat.

The longer a human can live healthily, the happier and more productive they will be, and the better it is
for society too, because it could alleviate the pressure on the country’s economy and health service.

The key technology that Altos Labs aims to leverage is biological reprogramming, which, according to a
2011 study, is the process of 'instructing cells' or introducing materials that cause cells to revert to an
earlier developmental stage, effectively reversing their entire aging process. ‘reprogramming’ holds great
potential to treat vision loss, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and other age-related bodily
degeneration.

Around 150 years ago, people didn’t live long enough to experience such illnesses. Instead, hardship,
lack of effective medicine, and poor living conditions left them vulnerable to infectious diseases. Many
died in childhood (and women while giving birth). Slowing aging can help prevent disease because it
lowers the risk of:

type II diabetes

heart disease

stroke

Alzheimer’s disease

Parkinson’s disease

Cancer - Approximately 70% of cancer cases occur in those aged over 50.

We’re generally in denial that, for most of the diseases that we get these days, the root cause is aging. I
don’t know any 10-year-olds with Alzheimer’s disease or heart disease.
A Longevity Mindset is characterized by a belief in the potential of scientific advancements to extend our
health span by ten or even twenty years. It acknowledges that progress in health technologies, driven by
AI or gene therapy.

So, the Longevity Mindset is mortality is avoidable, youth is extendable.

One of the greatest benefits of taking advantage of anti-aging treatments is improved self-confidence.
When a person looks good, they feel good. Maintaining a refreshed, attractive appearance can help a
person live life to the fullest. Instead of worrying about facial wrinkles or a double chin, they can spend
more time enjoying life and trying new, exciting things.
