GRAMMAR FOCUS
Today we will check out the use of the present perfect when talking about life
experiences. There are three possible ways to use the present perfect when
talking about life experiences.

I. Talking about things that have happened before (experiences in your life)

Interrogative: HAVE/HAS + SUBJECT + EVER + VERB (P.P) + COMPLEMENT?

Ex: Have you EVER been to the U.S.A?

Affirmative: SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + VERB (P.P) + COMPLEMENT.

Ex: Yes. I have been to the U.S.A.

Negative: SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + NEVER + VERB (P.P) + COMPLEMENT.

Ex: I have NEVER been to the U.S.A

*Ever- used in questions. Never- used in negatives

II. Talking about things that are usually expected from you

Interrogative: HAVE/HAS + SUBJECT + VERB (P.P) + COMPLEMENT + YET?

Ex: Have you finished your homework yet?

Affirmative: SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + ALREADY + VERB (P.P) + COMPLEMENT.

Ex: I have already finished my homework.

Negative: SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS NOT + VERB (P.P) + COMPLEMENT + YET.

Ex: I haven’t finished my homework yet.

Already: used in affirmative sentences (before the main verb)

Yet: Used in questions and negatives (at the end of the sentence)

III. Emphasizing life experiences

CLAUSE + SUPERLATIVE + SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + EVER + VERB (P.P) +

COMPLEMENT.

Ex: New York is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY I have EVER been to.
