1 General
ZFW20-145 ( L ) /T3150-40 gas insulated metal-enclosed switchgear ( ZFW20-145 gas insulated metal-
enclosed switchgear or GIS for short )is a kind of high voltage switch equipment that three-phase in common
case designed and developed by New northeast electric(Shenyang)high voltage switch Co.LTD
The product can be included : the basic components such as bus,disconnecting switch,earthing switch,circuit
breaker,expansion joints,voltage transformer,current transformer,lead-out bushing,Zinc oxide lightning
arrester,control cabinet as required.
ZFW20-145 gas insulated metal-enclosed switchgear is the important transmission and transformation
equipmen of the areas such as electric network transformation、steel, chemicals, mining.It has specialties such
as cover a small area,low noise,no fire risk,long maintenance cycle,safe and reliable running and suitable indoor
and outdoor.
According to the different needs of users, it could be in a variety of ways of single bus ,double bus.
2 Operating ambient condition1)
a)Ambient air temperature:-30℃~+40℃;
b) Air humidity : relative humidity :daily average should be no greater than 95% ; Monthly average
should be no greater than 90%;
Saturated vapor pressure:daily average should be no greater than 2.2 kPa;Monthly average should be
no greater than 1.8 kPa;
c)Elevation should be no greater than 1000m;
d)Pollution level Ⅲ;
e)Wind speed should be no greater than 34m/s(corresponding to 700Pa on the cylindrical surface);
f)Ice level 10;
g)Seismic fortification intensity 9,horizontal acceleration 0.3 g (sine resonance wave);

3.1.3 Technical parameters of disconnecting switch,earthing switch

Disconnecting switch and earthing switch of ZFW20-145 GIS include three modules:

a) Disconnecting switch(DS),with motor operating mechanism of 2 stations;

b) 3 station switch composed by disconnecting switch and earthing switch (DS/ES), it composes the
function of disconnecting switch ( DS ) and earthing switch ( ES ) , with motor operating
mechanism of 3 stations;

c) Fast earthing switch ( FES ) with short-circuit making capacity , with motor spring operating
mechanism of 2 stations;

4 Structure and working principle


4.1The general layout
ZFW20-145(L)/T 3150-40 GIS include components such as circuit breaker, disconnecting switch,earthing
switch,bus,voltage transformer,current transformer,casing,cable terminal 、 lightning arrester. According to the
different needs of users, it could be in a variety of ways of single bus ,double bus and bus section. Figure 1to fig
ure 4 are typical arrangements.

4.2 Structure and working principle of circuit breaker


The structure of circuit breaker is single breaker of each pole,arc extinguish chamber is self-energy type.Three
arc extinguish chambers are in a sealed tank which is earthing ,each arc extinguish chamber is separated by
insulating cylinder poured by epoxy resin , in order to prevent the electrode short circuit caused by the breaking
short-circuit current.They are connected to the spring operating mechanism through mechanical connection,the
structure of circuit breaker is shown as figure 5.

4.2.1 Structure and working principle of arc extinguish chamber
Structure of arc extinguish chamber is shown as figure 6. At opening position , electricity flows through the
static main contactor (5)and the moving main contactor(6) , that is the main channel of the load current.the
static arc contactor(1)and the moving arc contactor are in parallel.

a) Breaking load current


In the process of breaking , the static main contact ( 5 ) separates with the moving main
contact(6)firstly,electricity flows through the static arc contact (1) and the moving arc contact (4)which
are still close.Then the static arc contact(1) separates with the moving arc contact (4),arc comes into being
between them.At the same time,the compressed gas in the compressing air chamber flow to big nozzle(2)
and small nozzle(3) through termal expansion chamber,blow out the arc between the static arc contact (1)
and the moving arc contact (4),shown as the figure 7.
b) Breaking short circuit current
In the process of breaking short circuit current,arc extinguishing gas around the arc contact is heated by
electric arc energy fully,leading to that pressure of gas in termal expansion chamber rises,in this case, the
arcing pressure required don't have to be provided by the operating mechanism .After the static contact is out
from the big spout fully,the gas pressure rises in the termal expansion chamber flow from the nozzle rapidly
and blowing out the electric arc. At the same time, the pressure of compressed gas in compressing air chamber
comes to a designated value,open the valve(9),so the pressure of gas is not too high,keeps the breaking
speed,reduces the demand for output power of the operating mechanism.Shown as figure 8.

4.2.2 Operating mechanism

4.2.3 Control circuit


Depict The circuit has its own control cabinet, On-site operation and remote operation can be realized ,and has a
complete interlock circuit.
In order to ensure the reliability of breaking of circuit breaker,it is with two sets of breaking circuit to make

4.3 Structure and working principle of disconnecting switch and earthing switch
Disconnecting switch and earthing switch of the production have three kinds of structure:

4.3.1 Three station switch(DS/ES) combined by disconnecting switch and earthing switch
and its operating mechanism
a) Three station switch(DS/ES) combined by disconnecting switch and earthing switch
The strcture of three station switch (DS/ES) combined by disconnecting switch and earthing switch is
shown as figure 9.It combines the function of disconnecting switch(DS) and earthing switch(ES),they
share a same moving contact (2),with three stations mechanism,could be operated by electric and manul.

The driving force of output shaft of three stations mechanism(5)transmits to insulating rod(4), through
the transmission system drives the moving contact (2) act .

After the moving contact(2) contacts with the static contact of disconnecting switch(1) fully,makes the
disconnecting switch closing,shown as figure 10(a).At the moment,if the moving contact(2) moves

middle position, shown as figure 10(b).

After the moving contact(2) contacts with the static contact of earthing switch(3) fully,makes the earthing
switch closing,shown as figure 10 ( c ) .At the moment , if the moving contact(2) moves reversely, it
makes earthing switch to do opening operation to be opening,moving contact(2) is in the middle position,
shown as figure 10(b).
When disconnecting switch(DS) of three station switch(DS/ES)is opening only, earthting switch(ES) of
three station switch(DS/ES)can do closing or opening operation.The same, when earthting switch(ES) of
three station switch ( DS/ES ) is opening only, disconnecting switch(DS)of three station
switch(DS/ES)can do closing or opening operation.
b) Operation mechanism
The appearance of motor operating mechanism for three stations switch is shown as figure 11.There are two
motors drive the mechanism,each for disconnecting switch and earthing switch,Transmits driving force of
motor through transmission components such as toothed wheel to the common output shaft to realize the
three station operation of switch.
The mechanism has interlock function, when DS is opening only, ES can operate. The same, when ES is
opening only, DS can do closing or opening operation.

The operating mechanism could be operated by electric and manul with interlock function.
Remove the cover plate of lock device of mechanism,shown as figure 12,turn wrench of lock device of
DS(3)to“manul”,then insert hand crank to rabbet of hand crank of DS(2),shake it according to the
direction indicated on the plate to closing or opening operation of DS.The same, turn wrench of lock device
of ES(4)to“manul”,then insert hand crank to rabbet of hand crank of ES(5),shake it according to the
direction indicated on the plate to closing or opening operation of ES.
Turn wrench of lock device of DS(3) to the position of lock or unlock,then pull out lock latch of DS(1),
Depict lock DS in the position of lock or unlock with padlock.The same, turn wrench of lock device of ES(4) to
the position of lock or unlock,then pull out lock latch of ES(6), lock DS in the position of lock or unlock
with padlock.

When wrench of lock device(3、4)is in position of manul,electrical circuit breaks,manul operation


only;in position of unlock,electrical circuit connects,rabbet of hand crank is mechanical lock,electrical
operation only;in position of lock,electrical circuit breaks,rabbet of hand crank is mechanical
lock,neither electrical operation nor manul operation.
4.3.2 Two stations disconnecting switch and its operating mechanism
a) Two stations disconnecting switch
Two stations disconnectingswitch(DS) is similar to three station switch ( DS/ES ) in structure,the
difference is DS without earthing station, with two stations motor mechanism, can do closing and opening
operation.The structure of Two stations disconnectingswitch DS is shown as figure 13.

Depict The appearance of motor operating mechanism for three stations switch is shown as figure 14.There is a
motors drive the mechanism,transmits driving force of motor through transmission components such as
toothed wheel to the output shaft to realize the opening and closing operation of switch.

Remove the cover plate of lock device of mechanism,as shown as figure 4.15,turn wrench of lock
device of DS(3)to“manul”,then insert hand crank to rabbet of hand crank of DS(2),shake it according
to the direction indicated on the plate to closing or opening operation of DS.
Turn wrench of lock device of DS(3) to the position of lock or unlock,then pull out lock latch of DS(1),

lock DS in the position of lock or unlock with padlock.

The functions of DS when wrench of lock device(3) are in the position manul,unlock and lock are as the

same as three stations operating mechanism.

4.3.3 Fast earthing switch
Fast earthing switch(FES)with electric spring operation mechanism, fast earthing switch and electric spring
operation mechanism is a whole module unit. Fast earthing switch can do closing and opening operation,the
structure of FES is shown as figure 16.FES does opening operation,at the same time ,the closing spring stores
energy,when the closing spring release,achieves rapid closing.

Operating mechanism of fast earthing switch also has locking functiong,shown as figure 17.open the

4.4 Current transformer


The structure of current transformer is thoughout,first circuit conductor through annular core of the secondary
coil,closed in tank charged 0.6MPa.According to different needs of users,there are current transformers of
various parameters(such as variable ratio and accurate level). The structure of current transformer is shown as
figure 18.

4.5 Voltage transformer


The structure of voltage transformer is electromagnetic,there are single-phase type and three-phase
type.Core and winding of voltage transformer are sealed in tank charged 0.5MPa SF6 gas.
The structure of three-phase type voltage transformer is shown as figure 19 a).
The structure of single-phase type voltage transformer is shown as figure 19 a).

4.6 Lightning arrester
Lightning arrester is metal zinc oxide lightning arrester,three phases are sealed in a tank incharged 0.5MPa
SF6 gas,the structure is shown as figure 20.

Working principle is as following : when the power system occurs lightning impulse or operating
overvoltage,zinc oxide non-linear resistance in lightning arrester is connected to released overvoltage
Basemap No. energy,and limit the value of residual voltage within the range of insulating ability of protected electrical
equipment,and there is a certain safety margin.Then , zinc oxide lightning arrester comess back to a high
impedance state again,make the electric power system to work normally.

4.7 Control cabinet


Control cabinet is the electrical connection point between GIS and the main conrol room , according to
structure and function,it can be divided into normal type and intelligent type.
4.7.1 Normal type control has the following functions:
a) Electrical on-site operation of circuit breaker,disconnecting switch,earthing switch;
b) Electrical interlocking of circuit breaker,disconnecting switch,earthing switch;
c) Various orders of operations from main control room.
4.7.2 Intelligent type control cabinet(intelligent measurement and control system) has the following functions:
Intelligent type control cabinet except has the functions of normal control cabinet,also has
protection,measurement and communication functions,after connection with main control room can realize the
automation management of power station.

5 Packing,transportation and storage


 Afer debugging, GIS is qualified , in principle,one interval is one unit at overall packaging and t
ransport,if the interval is too long or not allowed to transport,air bound unit is used for packaging and transport.
 Before packaging, each units should be charged in 0.03MPa high purity nitrogen in case of moisture
and dust entering.
 Check each packing overall according to the packing list.
When lifting,should pay attention to the position of lifting,choose suitable nylon rope,during transportation
and discharge,should avoid violent vibration in case of damage of internal components. After the products
arrived at the site, when need to temporarily save, should pay attention to the following points:
1) All the packings should be on concrete ground.
If the condition is bad,should choose a place of good drainage and ventilation, installed on the base,in
order to prevent contacting with the ground directly.
2) Cover it with the appropriate tarpaulin.
3) The packing eauipped with accessories should be on the dry place indoor or temporary buildings.
4) SF6 gas should be on the dry place indoor or temporary buildings,noe exposed to the sun directly.
5) After a few days,take off tarpaulin to dry packing.
6 Installation
The components and parts have been assembled in factory should not be disassembled during installation.If it
must be disassembled ,that should be agreed by manufacturer ahead of time,or under the guide of staff of
manufacturer.
6.1 Inspection of base installation
According to the substation foundation pattern provided by the manufacturers or design units, check the
foundation construction is in accordance with the drawings requirements or not .
6.2 Environmental requirements and prepare for work before installation
a) During installation,should choose a good weather,rainy days operation is prohibited.Installation site
should be no dust and water ;Staff should keep personal clean ,wear work clothes and gloves,staff
only on the installation site;
b)Auxiliary equipment should be in standby state.Dedicated device such as gas recovery unit, adsorbent
oven,micro water meter, SF6 gas leak detector should be in well standby state;

c) Before installation, should remove the dust and water which stored during transport and storage on the
surface of all GIS components;
d) In the transport process, the basin insulator plus shield to prevent the basin insulator be affected with
damp and broken.So should not remove the shield before installation.
6.3 Installation of GIS
Installation of GIS should be based on the bus step by step.
a) If the number of intervals is large,the interval in the middle position may be the first installation
interval ; If the number of intervals is small,the interval on one side may be the first installation
interval。After installation of the first interval ,should adjust the level carefully ,at the same time,
should also make center line of interval and the based center line of the interval no difference as
possible,put away the gas of bus after that, remove the cap on both ends ,clean up the sealing surface
and sealing ring.
b) When installing the second interval ,clean up the sealing surface and install sealing ring too ,adjust
levelness well,make the flange is of alignment to the flange of the first interval.Also the third and the
fourth interval.
c) If it is with expansion joints,sealing surface should be according to the above method.Because of
reasons of transportation or limit of hoisting equipment,the sealing surface of the parts must be
disassembled need to be cleaned up and install sealing ring.
d) For connecting of the flange of GIS tank with the basin insulator,avoid bolting is tightened excessively
or insufficiently.For the basin insulator installed , When tighten bolts,should be followed
up,down,left,right then tighten center in order. When tighten two or more bolts, bolts should not be
tightened once, should repeatedly tightened. In reference torque and fastening order of bolts may refer to
table 9 and figure 21.
e) When install or remove the bolts in the tank , must be very careful.When tighten and loosen the
bolts,there may be metal sundries,these sundries is very dangerous in the tank,so after completion of the
work,use vacuum cleaner to clean up carefully,ues “glabrous paper”wipe again.

6.4 Installation of special components
After completion of the above installation,should pay attention to the installation of the following special
components.
6.4.1 Installation and use of the expansion joints
Expansion joints are used for absorption from installation error caused by grievances or pitch error, concrete
structure is shown as figure 22.During installation,loosen the nuts 1、2、3 to adjust the size easily,after the
installation,tighten the nuts.Attention,the electrical connection plate between the flange of the both sides of
corrugated pipe should be connected well.

6.4.2 Installation of the bushing
Check When there are installations of out-line and in-line bushing,porcelain casing should be installed after the
completion of installation of the other parts.Must be careful to prevent scratching porcelain bushing when
lifting porcelain bushing.During installation , install inside shielding cover firstly,ensur reliable contact of

6.4.3 Installation of cable terminals,SF6 gas-oil separation bushing
Installation of cable terminals,SF6 gas-oil separation bushing used to be installed under help of staff of
manufacturer after installation of GIS.
6.4.4 Considerations of installation of lighting arrester,voltage transformer
Generally,lightning arrester,voltage transformer should not be connected to GIS in power frequency withstand
voltage test.In terms of lightning arrester,in order to avoid the influence of voltage hysteresis effect on ZnO
elements,test voltage should be lower than rated voltage of lightning arrester,more than two consecutive test
voltage applied, the time interval should be more than an hour. In terms of voltage transformer,it should be
avoided voltage of primary parts makes magnetic flux saturation of coil of iron core to affect the precision of
the transformer.take the method that apply frequency doubling of AC voltage from secondary terminal to do
insulation test.
6.5 Auxiliary installation
  After installation of each component,the install the following components in turn.
a) During installation of secondary line of elements such as circuit breaker, disconnecting switch, earthing
switch,current transformer,voltage transformer,check the wiring with buzzer, multimeter,confirm the
connection parts are in good condition.
b) During installation of SF6 gas pipeline of each gas chamber,clean up the pipeline inside carefully, install
sealing ring of O type.
c) Ensure the cover of GIS earthing reliably.The electrical connection plate between the flange of the both
sides of corrugated pipe should be connected well.Connect the ground wire on earthing flange of product.
6.6 Installation process
a) Before connecting various elements,remove the protective casing of the basin insulatour use glabrous
paper dipping in acetone to wash surface of basin insulator and surface of embedded conductor
carefully,to ensure the sealing of the connection and contact of conductor are reliable,and install sealing
ring;
  b)Installation of sealing ring
Remove protective shield of seal surface,check whether there is damage on sealing surface and the surface
of the seal groove or not.If it is the slight damage,polish it with NO.1000 sandpaper or sharpening stone
carefully.If the situation is serious,must replace a new one;
  Check whether there is any any manufacturing quality problems if there is a phenomenon such as
deformation, crack, damage, must replace a new one.
Clean up sealing face,sealing groove and sealing ring with glabrous paper dipping in alcohol carefully.
  c) Replace adsorbent
Adsorbent is affected with damp easily,so the adsorbent in the GIS must be through dring
processing .Drying temperature is 400℃,Drying time is 2h. Dried adsorbent should be put in sealing and
dry container to install immediately after cooling to room temperature within the GIS ,it is no more than
10 min to exposed in the air.
If adsorbent installed into GIS, tank could not be sealed and vacuumed immediately,it should be dealt with
again after more than 4 hours.
7 Debugging
As the GIS have been debug in the factory, so mechanical dimension measurement on site is not carried
on, Only carry on mechanical operation and mechanical properties test ; measurement of resistance of
main loop;characteristics test of Current transformer, voltage transformer, lightning arrester ;moisture

7.1 Preparation work before debugging


  After the installation, before debugging work,the following work should be carried on.
7.1.1 Measurement of resistance of main loop(before the vacuum)
  The value of circuit resistance of each unit should not exceed 120% of the value measured in factory,and
should not be more than the specified value of manufacturer.
7.1.2 Characteristic test of current transformer(before the vacuum)
7.1.3 Vacuumize
    Connect the vacuum pump or gas recovery device to GIS with rubber hose,shown as figure 23,and
according to the following steps.
a) Close globe valve 7 、 4 , open globe valve 10 、 12.vacuumized after 5 min,close globe valve
12,observe the vacuum pressure in the pipeline.
15min. If the vacuum pressure rise, check the gas pipe joint, handle the leak source;
b) Open globe valve 7,vacuumize GIS.When the vacuum pressure reaches 40 Pa,last 2hours.then close
globe valve 10,open the exhaust valve of vacuum pump and stop the pump.
7.1.4 Filling SF6 gas
   Before filling the sulfur hexafluoride gas ,should check the moisture of SF6 gas bottle, the moisture content
should be less than 8μg/g。
Open globe valve 2、4,fill SF6 gas;shown as figure 23.
PS:
1) When using normal pressure gauge, according to theSF6 gas pressure - temperature characteristic
curve ,when filled with SF6 gas to the rated pressure (20 ℃,gauge pressure) ,dismante piping after
close globe valve 2、4、7.
2) When using pointer density relay , filled with SF6 gas directly to the rated pressure(gauge
pressure),dismante piping after close globe valve 2、4、7.

When vacuum and fill SF6 gas ,the following points should be paid attention to:
a) When vacuum there must be specially-assigned person , when the pump is stopped because of power
outage or other unforeseeable reasons,close globe valve 12 immediately,and open the exhaust valve of the
vacuum pump to prevent the lubricating oil in the vacuum going into GIS;
b) If the vacuum pump need to stop pump during the work , close globe valve 12 firstly , before
disconnection vacuum pump power supply, open the exhaust valve of the vacuum pump;
c) Gas pipe line must be kept clean to prevent moisture or impurity into the tube.
7.2 Inspection before debugging
a) The anchor bolts are tight or not;
b) Each connection bolts are tight or not;
c) All globe valves are in the work positions or not;
d) All kinds of instrument are normal or not;
e) Earthing lines are effective or not;
f) SF6 gas pressure reaches the specified value or not.
7.3 Mechanical operation and mechanical characteristics test
7.3.1 Mechanical operation and mechanical characteristics test of circuit breaker
Circuit breaker must filled SF6 gas of rated pressure before mechanical operation.Circuit breaker should
slowly close and open twice by manul without bad phenomenon before electrical operation.Then the
storage energy of operating mechanism reaches to the specified value,mechanical characteristics test
should be accord with table 4.
Mechanical operation test is shown as table 10.

7.4 Measurement of insulation resistance of circuit


  Insulation resistance to earth of main circuit should be greater than 2000 MΩ measured by 2000V shaking
table.
  Insulation resistance to earth of auxiliary circuit and control circuit should be greater than 2 MΩ measured
by 500V shaking table.
7.5 Measurement of moisture of SF6 gas
If SF6 gas contains large amounts of moisture,there will be water on the surface of the insulation when
temperature goes low, so the insulation resistance will reduce.Therefore,moisture content of SF6 gas in
circuit breaker chamber should be controlled within 150μL/L, moisture content of SF6 gas in other
chambers should be within 250μL/L. Moisture content should be measured after 24 hours since charged.
7.6 Sealing test
Leak detection of SF6 gas should be with SF6 gas leak detector which the sensitivity no less than 10 -
7
MPa·cm3/s,should check the sealing of all the connection parts.
Method of leak detection should be local bandaging.Leak rate should be less than 0.5% per year.
7.7 Operation pressure detection of density relay
Setting value of SF6 gas density relay pressure (20℃gauge pressure),according to table 2.
7.8 Electrical interlocking test among circuit breaker,disconnecting switch, earthing
switch
Electrical interlocking test among circuit breaker,disconnecting switch, earthing switch should be:
a) Circuit breaker is open, then disconnecting switch is open, earthing switches on either side of circuit
breaker are close,no automatic opening after closing;
b) Earthing switch is open,then disconnecting is close,circuit breaker is close finally;
c) Disconnecting switch could not be open and earthing switch could not be close when circuit breaker
is close.;
d) Disconnecting switch could be close after earthing switch is open when circuit breaker is open.
If there are special requirements, according to the technical agreement signed with the users.

7.9 Power frequency withstand voltage test on site


After the installation, debugging or maintenance on site, GIS should be carried on power frequency
withstand voltage test.Pressure of SF6 gas is rated pressure when test.The lightning arrester,voltage
transformer,cable terminal should be separated with GIS when test.The supply voltage is 80% of the rated
power frequency withstand voltage.
7.10 Use
After installation, debugging and power frequency withstand voltage test on site,GIS can be put into
operation.
8 Maintenance and repair
!Dangerous
a) When there is electricity,please do not contact with dangerous parts and the
parts with electricity;
b) During operation,please do not put hands on dangerous parts of mechanism and the
parts with electricity;
c) No bolts and items like bolts in the mechanism and the parts with electricity;
d) When open the door of operating mechanism box and control cabinet during
maintenance,please fasten the door firstly to avoid the injury caused by the door
closed by sudden wind.

8.1 Method of maintenance and repair


Components in the SF6 gas has reached a low maintenance, low repair.As preventive protection
measures , considering the factors such as management of SF6 gas pressure,life of contact,durability of
insulating material,life of sealing ring and environmental impact to operating mechanism, We think the
maintenance should be considered according to the following method:
a) According to the using condition of circuit breaker, there should be different management of the
operation with low frequency and the high frequency;
b) Parts of the SF6 gas should be manage the pressure of gas;
c) Detaild maintenance:disintegrating check every 12 years or every 2000 operating times;
d) General maintenance:check once every 6 years or every 500 operating times;
e) Patrol inspection is daily or weekly;
f) Believe that there is a abnormal case should carry on a temporary repair.
8.2 Patrol inspection
Patrol inspection is to point to that the GIS is in normal operation condition, there is no abnormal situation
from the external monitoring,carried on with inspecting all the equipments ,the content of inspection is
shown as table 12.

arc extinguish chamber and operating mechanism,,at the same time,replace the similar parts according
