My 3D Project in a Learning Environment

In my lesson, I plan on using this 3D printed heart as an example for students’ upcoming

assignments. After reading Macbeth, students will create their own visual symbol that represents

a theme in the play using the 3D printer. They will present these to the class and explain why

their chosen symbol represents the play. I will show my example and explain that it represents

the theme of passion in Macbeth. I think that it will be beneficial for students to see this object as

manipulative because it will help bring the play to life. Students will also learn their peers’

different perspectives during the presentations. My learning objective for this project is: By the

end of the unit, students will be able to analyze themes in Macbeth through creating a visual

symbol on the 3D printer. A standard that aligns with this lesson is: RL.9-10.7 Analyze the

representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic mediums. This project connects

to the standard because students will analyze themes in Macbeth through creating their own

visual symbol on the 3D printer and presenting it to the class.

Thoughts on 3D Modeling Software

Facilitating learning experiences through 3D modeling software and creating 3D printing

models would be worthwhile in my future classroom because it would help bring stories to life.

As a future teacher of English Language Arts, I want my students to be able to connect and

understand with the texts we encounter on a deeper level. 3D printing projects could allow

students to interpret stories in a way they have not before. I think that 3D printing projects

change the learning experience because it is fun and engaging for students. It allows students to

take control over their own learning as they choose what they want to create. Students can share

their projects with their peers and learn from each other. This will help students get excited about

learning and collaboration!
