REACTION PAPER

According to Aristotle's ethical theory, virtues result from human actions, for the perception of the
moral character of a person emanates from various activities. Human actions and activities aim at attaining
excellence, which is a virtue in every aspect of life. It emphasizes the character traits of individuals rather
than their actions or consequences. It suggests that we should strive to develop and cultivate positive
character traits, known as virtues, and avoid negative ones, known as vices. The goal is to become a
virtuous person who acts in a morally right way for the right reasons. According to virtue ethics, virtues like
honesty, compassion, courage, and integrity are essential qualities for living a flourishing life. These virtues
are not just individualistic but also social, as they are related to our interactions with other people.

I think Aristotle's point in his virtue ethical theory is to emphasize the importance of living a virtuous
life in order to achieve happiness. And I believe it is quite evident that the concept is particularly valuable
as it shows that human actions play a significant role in shaping one's morality through habituation.
Knowing what actions give certain moral virtues enables one to pursue morality by habitually exercising
them. As I've experienced, I found a lost wallet on the street with a large sum of cash and several credit
cards inside. I was faced with the dilemma of whether to keep the wallet and use the money for my own
benefit or to try and return it to its rightful owner. Since I've been habitually practicing virtue ethics, I
would decide to return the wallet to its rightful owner. I would do so not just because it is the right thing to
do but because it aligns with my inner values and virtues of honesty and compassion. In this situation,
virtue ethics emphasizes the importance of developing and practicing good character, which guides one's
decision-making process and leads to a life of moral excellence. By living a virtuous life and cultivating
these virtues, individuals can achieve a sense of inner harmony and fulfillment, which leads to a more
meaningful and satisfying life.

In conclusion, virtue ethics helps individuals develop good character traits and habits that lead to a
fulfilling and meaningful life. It emphasizes the importance of cultivating virtues such as honesty, courage,
kindness, and wisdom in our daily lives. By developing these virtues, we can live a good life not only for
ourselves but also for the betterment of society. Virtue ethics provides a useful framework for living a
good life. It encourages individuals to focus on character development rather than just following moral
rules or seeking personal gain. By cultivating virtue habits, individuals can live a more fulfilling and rich life,
benefiting themselves and those around them.
