PROBLEM: What Is the relationship between the vertical displacement and the horizontal displacement of
a projectfle fired with a specific and constant horizontal velocity?

APPARATUS: two paper strips (1.5 m long) carbon paper projectile launcher
target holder plumb line clamp
metre stick

Launcher

Target holder

Line

THOD: 1.
L
Mark off the following horizontal distances on the paper strip that goes on the floor.
0.0 cm, 20.0 cm, 40.0 cm, 60.0 cm, 80.0 cm, 100.0 cm, 120.0 cm

2. Clamp Projectile Launcher to the desk.

3. Tape the paper strip from Step 1 on the floor so that the 0.0 mark is at the point of the
plumb bob.

4. Tape your target paper strip to the target holder. On the target paper mark on the height
from which the ball is launched. Then place the carbon paper over top of the paper strip
on the target holder.

5. Place the target at the 20.0 cm mark.

6. Fire the projectile. Then set the target at the next horizontal displacement and fire again.

ANALYSIS: 1. Measure the vertical displacement for each horizontal displacement and display your
observations In an appropriate table.

2 DetermIne the proportionality between the two variables.

3. Make a new table that is necessary to find the correct relationship between the two
variables.

4. DetermIne the relationship between the two variables.

CONCLUSIONS: State the relationship between the vertical and horizontal displacement for the projectile
in this lab.
