1. Find the probability and sketch the curve

(i) from z = 0 to z = 1.23.

Answer:

P (0 < Z < 1.23) = P (Z < 1.23) – P (Z < 0)

P (Z < 1.23) = 0.8907
P (Z < 0) = 0.5000
= P (Z < 1.23) – P (Z < 0)
= 0.8907 – 0.5000
= 0.3907

(ii) from z = 1.62 to z = 0.43.

Answer:
P (Z < 0.43 < 1.62) = P (Z < 1.62) – P (Z < 0.43)
= P (Z < 1.62) = 0.9474
= P (Z< 0.43) = 0.6664
= P (Z < 1.62) – P (Z < 0.43)
= 0.9474 – 0.6664
= 0.281

(iii) −0.15 ≤ z ≤ 2.38.

Answer:
P (-0.15 < Z < 2.38) = P (Z < 2.38) – P (Z < -0.15)
P (Z < 2.38) = 0.9913
P (Z < -0.15) = 0.4404
= P (Z < 2.38) – P (Z < -0.15)
= 0.9913 – 0.4404
= 0.5509 or 55.09%

2. Find the z − score when

(i) the probability from z = 0 and −z is 0.4713.

Solution and Answer:

z=0 50%

0.4713 = 47.13%

50% - 47.13% = 2.87%

2.87% = 0.0287

0.287 - 1.9

z = - 1.9

(ii) the probability to the right of +z is 0.1379.

Solution and Answer:

= 1 – 0.1379
= 0.8621

0.8621 1.09

P (Z > 0.1379) = 1.09

(iii) the probability to the left of +z is 0.8770.

Solution and Answer:

P (Z < 0.8770) = 1.16

3. The average systolic pressure of the 200 patients in a certain hospital is 151 with a standard
deviation of 15. Assuming that it could be normally distributed, find the number of patients who
have systolic pressure:

(i) from 119 to 155.

Given:
Mean = 151
Standard deviation = 15

Solution:

P (119 < x < 155)

=P ( 119−151
15
<z<
155−151
15 )
= P (−2.13< z <0.27 )
= 0.6064 - 0.0166
= 0.5898

Answer in complete sentence:

The number of patients who have a systolic pressure from 119 to 155 is 0.5898 or 58.98% = 59%

(ii) less than or equal to

127.

Given:
Mean = 151
Standard deviation = 15

Solution:
= P (X≤127)
= P [Z ≤ (127-151)/15]
= P [Z≤ - 1.6]
= 0.0548

Answer in complete sentence:

The number of patients who have a systolic pressure less than or equal to 127 is 0.0548 or 5.48%

Mean = 151
Standard deviation = 15

Solution:
¿ P ( X ≥185 )

(
¿ P Z≥
185−151
15 )
¿ P ( z ≥ 2.27 )
¿ 1−0.9884
¿ 0.0116

Answer in complete sentence:
