Complementary and Alternative Medicine

I learned that complementary and alternative medicine (CAAM) is widely practiced in the
Philippines, especially among the poorer segments of society who cannot afford conventional
medicine. CAAM is often less expensive and more accessible, making it an attractive option.
Traditional medicine practitioners or "hilot" are found in most villages and offer their services at
affordable rates. Many Filipinos also incorporate cultural beliefs and practices into their healing
practices. The lack of access to conventional medicine in certain areas, especially in rural
areas, has also contributed to the popularity of CAAAM. However, it is important to note that
CAAM should not be seen as a replacement for conventional medicine and that its efficacy and
safety should be thoroughly researched and evaluated.
