ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

God always good, He is a way maker and my best leader. Through His

mercy I can finish this thesis in time. There is always enough reason to thank my

almighty God, Jesus Christ who always gives me strength, patience, power, and

faith. He always convinces me even when I feel desperate in writing my thesis.

I also would like to thank my beloved parents, Papa Susanto and Mama

Irene. They are my best supporters who support me in many aspects of my life for

these 20 years. I could not imagine my life without them. As a child, I realize that I

would never be able to repay everything that they gave me, but I promise that I will

always do good little things that would make them proud and happy. No words can

describe how much I love them.

I would give my biggest gratitude to Mrs. Angelika Riyandari, Ph.D. as my

major sponsor, the one that from very beginning convinced me that I pick the right

topic for my thesis. Even more, she always gives me lots of suggestions, a bunch of

patience, and countless hours in writing this thesis. I am also feeling grateful for I

have a co-major like Dr. Heny Hartono, S.S., M.Pd. who has patiently, guides me

even in an urgent and tight time. Even more, she gives me good criticisms which are

very useful in writing this thesis; moreover, she always encourages and supports me

to build my confidence in presenting my thesis. I am also feeling very grateful to be

a part of the Faculty of Language and Arts for I have great lecturers and helpful

administration officers.

and cheer me up during my study in Faculty of Language and Arts. I cannot imagine

my life in Faculty of Language and Arts without them all.

I cannot also forget my entire fellow batch 2015 for giving me such

wonderful experiences which I cannot even forget during my study. I’d also like to

show my gratitude towards Student Senate 2016/2017 which has given me

unforgettable experiences in an organization.

Last but not least, I hope that through this thesis, I can help the upcoming

researcher who has the same topic as in this thesis.

ABSTRACT

Tinkerbell, the tiny fairy in the famous Peter Pan, is well-known for her role as
Peter Pan's supporting character. The writer is interested in writing and
researching Tinkerbell after she found two different presentations of Tinkerbell in
1953's Peter Pan and 2008's Tinkerbell, the voiceless and the voiced one. The
purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the marginalized voiceless
Tinkerbell in Peter Pan movie and the empowered voiced Tinkerbell
in Tinkerbell movie using Feminist approach. The writer used qualitative method
to analyze those two movies. The result of this research shows that gender
inequalities are a result of women being voiceless and silent as she cannot easily
express her ideas and feelings. Furthermore, by being voiceless, woman becomes
valueless, their life becomes so difficult and they seem to think that life is a
burden. Otherwise, if women can voice their opinion, ideas, and feelings they can
develop and improve themselves so that they are no longer colonized by other
people and live freely. The writer reveals that voiceless woman and voiced
women were represented perfectly by Tinkerbell in two different movies.
