ACTIVITY 4
MATHEMATICS IN OUR SURROUNDINGS

While looking at my surroundings, I saw this beautiful painting on my workplace's shelf

display. I really love art, and I appreciate any kind of art. My hobby is to paint
landscapes, anime, still life arts etc. but I am still practicing it. Last month, intramurals, I
was the chosen one to represent the CAS department in a painting contest but sadly I
didn't win. It's ok, I will practice more so that in the next contest, I will be one of the
winners.

There is a large amount of math involved in art, math in arts is way more important than
we expected. Artists have used mathematics since the 4th century BC. In fact, many of
the core skills in art and math are closely related. Both disciplines require spatial
reasoning skills and the ability to recognize patterns. Artists and mathematicians use
geometry in their work including: shapes, symmetry, proportion, and measurement. To
plan this kind of piece of art it must start with initial sketch designs, and calculate the
measurements of the lines to perfect the exact proportion of the art. Often, many artists
benefit from mathematical observation, such as the golden phi ratio in painting The
Mona Lisa, to make their artwork realistic and breathtaking. Math is an essential part of
art. Many ancient artists like Leonardo da Vinci were mathematicians. That is because
art without math was just hard to work with.

This art is not just all about the colors. Thanks to math, because painting without math
is just a mess, if you want to improve your art, to be beautiful and perfect, you must
include math, because math is literally everywhere. Study math because it makes your
problem solving enhance, and your painting skills are better than ever, and make your
life easier. Using such correct math equations makes all things literally perfect.
