PRESENT SIMPLE VERSUS PRESENT CONTINUOUS

I. Study these examples 1-8, from the interview and answer the questions below:

1. You're doing a “Higher National Diploma” (HND) in “System engineering”.

 We use the Present Continuous for things that are happening now and for a limited period
around now: E.g. I' m studying Technical English in this semester.

 We use the Present Simple:

 For things which are always true. E.g. Copper conducts electricity.
 For repeated actions, habits, and events. E.g. We finish early on Thursdays.
 With verbs that describe thinking and feeling. I like calculus, I think that we finish
early today, etc.

Location of a computer station:

Here is one way to set up your computer station. Put you screen in the centre of the system. Then
put one speaker in the centre on the left, and put the other speaker in the centre on the right.

Put the scanner at the top on the right, and put the computer at the top on the left. Then put the
DVD drive at the bottom on the left, and put the printer at the top in the centre. Finally, put the
keyboard at the bottom in the meddle and put the mouse at the bottom on the right.
