Objective of the activity

To inculcate the students about the managerial roles in an organization.
Learning outcome
After attempting this Assignment, students will be able:

 To understand the managerial roles.

 To highlight the importance of each managerial role required to achieve the
organizational goals.

The Premise
Xertox Pvt.Ltd. is a leading Telecom company in Pakistan that recently appointed Mr. Akbar as
a General Manager (GM). He has huge tasks and challenges at hand upon resuming the charge.
A noticeable decline in the company’s growth rate has been seen in recent years. Also, there is
an internal conflict (demand for additional manpower) between the Managers of the HR and
Finance departments. Mr. Akbar called a meeting with the Managers of both departments to
discuss the issues and asked the HR manager to revisit the demands of the Finance Manager by
reducing the number of employees due to financial constraints thus settling the conflict.

Additionally, after doing market research in the industry he found that the company needs
technological advancement while comparing with the competitors who are using cutting-edge
techniques. Therefore, they need to invest more in the upgrade of the company’s system for
increasing their customer base. He also extended the external network and also improved the
communication between his own peers, subordinates, and superiors resulting in better working
relations which fetched positive results within two years.

Requirement:
Identify any two managerial roles performed by Mr. Akbar at Xertox Pvt.Ltd. Also, justify and
relate your answer with one logical reason from the scenario.

(Marking Scheme: 6 Marks for identification of both roles and 4 marks for the justification).
