Residential houses
Casa MCNY Designed by: MF+ Arquitetos

• Couple with two daughters, who wanted a large

property with plenty of natural light and ventilation.
• The house's simple concrete structure has a low
profile and a turfed roof that enhances its connection
with the surrounding landscape.
• A wooden deck also enables the roof to function as
an additional outdoor space, and wide shutters open
the living space to the garden.
• The building is located in a gated community on
the outskirts of the town and comprises two wings
that form an L-shaped plan around a lawn and
swimming pool.
Gomati Designed by: Spasm Design
• The main living areas are situated in a
pavilion-like upper storey that perches on top
of the sloping garden to ensure it enjoys the
best views of the site's mature trees.
• The lower floor accommodates the bedrooms,
which are kept cool by the surrounding earth
and protected from the tropical downpours that
are common in this part of the country.

• A large terrace on this level contains an

outdoor dining space and leads to a
swimming pool that stretches away towards
the trees at the end of the garden. The pool's
walls appear to rise out of the ground, which
slopes away at its far end.
Pine Nut Cabane designed by: Daab Design
• The 35-square-metre cabin was created for a
family who wanted a flexible space for their
existing farmhouse that could serve as a painting
studio, guest house or room for family gatherings.
• Pine Nut Cabane occupies the family's favourite
location on the rural site – a small clearing
between a pine forest and an olive grove – which
they use as a place for painting or playing
pétanque.
• A cut in the northeastern corner of the structure
defines the black timber-lined entrance area and
limestone-paved terrace, which are sheltered by
the deep eaves along the cabin's northern edge.
3 Local Residential Houses
The Dadabhouy Residence Design By Design Options
• The entrance to the house is lined with mock
concrete timber planks set in smooth pebbles
and framed by a row of fresh green bamboo
leaves. This promenade channels the visitor to
the paved patio and main entrance to the house.
• There is a concrete effort to ensure each room
enjoys views out into the garden, receives
natural light and aids the wind direction in
ventilating the house.
• An earthy palette of materials and tones of
colours is issued in the finishing of surfaces.
The grey of the unplastered concrete frames the
use of deep hues of golden timber and washed
terrazzo.
ASA Residence
• The central courtyard enclosed by the living
spaces around it, making it an introspective
space for reflection and gathering.
• The skylight allows for natural sunlight while
the heat dissipates from the nets installed
under the ceiling, thus the interior also
remains ventilated.
• Grey unpainted cement walls, wooden
flooring and foliage throughout create a
natural, yet simplistic environment.
• The slats of the wooden pergola in the side of
the house throw the most interesting shades
where potted plants grow.
Habib Fida Ali’s Residence

• Habib Fida Ali’s home is recognized as

one of Karachi’s most iconic buildings.
• Two truly magnificent trees form a huge
canopy over one side of the house and are
a remarkable feature of this space.
• The renowned architect made his home
and his office in this beautifully restored
colonial-style bungalow which was built
over a hundred years ago.

Archaeologist's Office In Brazil

• "Openings to the gardens on both
sides complement the issue of
luminosity in addition to allowing
cross ventilation of all the office
environments," said the architects.
• Although covered by a low roof, the
leisure area is actually unenclosed,
which allows tropical plants to grow
within the workspace, in planters that
