Three-storey Bungalow Interior Design in Bukit Timah

Soothing sounds of water greets the visitor upon entry

This three-storey house, perched on a hill in Bukit Timah, is tailored to the demands of
entertaining, art collecting and raising a precocious toddler. The owners brief to the Interior
Designer was to create a modern tropical-esque home and sanctuary. The house’s interior
tone and artistic aspirations are evident from the moment you enter. The soothing sound of
moving water, soft warm lightings and cool limestone tiles will instantly transport you to a
dream resort getaway.

A warm and inviting ambiance created by blending textures and contrasts

The owners wanted a massive internal overhaul to define their new home and satisfy their
contemporary design tastes but still retain the traditional architecture of the house.

The living room furniture have taut modern lines - a  slim upholstered sofa surround a clear
glass coffee table, warm dark timber wall backdrop fronting the television unit – but the look is
tempered by a warm palette of charcoal, tobacco and a brassy shot of sunny yellow at the
stairwell.

An eclectic mixture of furniture helps define this open-plan space

The home owner’s collection of art pieces decorates this home and adds a personal touch to the
whole design element. The cheery yellow wall facing the stairwell enhances the resort theme
further.

The formal dining area is simply furnished with a gracious eight-seater glass dining table
flanked to match a spectacular ceiling height with the void area encased within framed glass
panels.

Another big attraction in this house is the landscaping surrounding its perimeters. From the front
of the house, a manicured lawn is peppered with luscious palms and foliage. This space was
further enhanced by the use of limestone flooring and rustic roofing so that it exists as an
extension to the adjacent kitchen and also serves as an informal outdoor dining space.

Throughout the side of the house, similar roofing structure merges the indoors and the outdoors
seamlessly. Water features are built in and around the house from the point of entry at the front
door to the living area and the rooftop patio.

Dead spaces at the side of the house were utilized by installing vertical gardens which
contributes to the lush tropical resort feel and also helps to maintain a discreet level of privacy
with the neighbors.

The bedrooms and private family areas are located on the second level of the house. A room on
the third floor is converted into an office and library.
