2. Content Subtracting decimal number through thousandths without and with regrouping.
3. Learning Flash cards
Resources/Mate Worktext page 9
rials/Equipment Lesson Guide pages 254-256
4. Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes each
step will consume)
Preparation 1.Drill
5minutes Answer basic subtraction facts using flash cards
2.Review
Add the following:
0.5 + 0.33 + 0.451 = __________
1.85 + 3.056 + 5.03 = _________
3. Motivation
What do you observed in adding and subtracting decimal?
Presentation 1.Presentation
20minutes A piece of cloth measures 0.8972 metre. Josie cut 0.3120 m from it for her work in
patching How many metres of cloth were left?
What are we going to find out?
What process shall we use to get the correct answer?
Write the solution on the board.
How did you write the decimal point of the minuend, subtrahend, and remainder?
What similarities exist between subtracting whole numbers and subtracting decimals?

2.Activity
Let the pupil work in pairs.
Find the difference.
1. 0.3 – 0.09 = ___ 2.0.78-0.590 = ___ 3.0.70-0.12 = ___
4. 0.45 – 0.23 = ___ 5. 0.56 – 037 = ____
3.Analysis
How do we subtract decimal?
How are the decimal points written?
What will you do if the minuend has lesser number of decimal than that of the subtrahend?

4.Abstraction
Solve:
What number when added to 0.2635 will result to 0.333?
How to solve this problem?
Summarizing the lesson:
In subtracting decimal:
1. Arrange the numbers in column
2. Align the decimal points ;
3. Subtract like whole numbers ;
4. Put the decimal point directly below the decimal point in the minuend and the
subtrahend;
5. When the minuend has less decimal places than the subtrahend,add as many zeroes (0)
as the decimal places of the subtrahend;
6. Subtract as a whole number.
Practice Find the difference:
10 minutes a. 0.762 b. 0.936
- 0.36 - 0.642
c. Sarah cut 0.65 m from a piece of wire 0.92 m long .How long was left of the piece
of wire?

5. Assessment (indicate whether it is thru Observation and/ or Talking/conferencing to learners and/or

Analysis of Learner’s Products and/or Tests)
Direction :Solve for the difference
1. 0.3 – 0.18 = _________
2. 0.4 – 0.27 = __________
Written Test 3. What is 0.397 subtracted from 0.74?
10minutes 4. The difference between 0.8 and 0.36 is ____
5. From 0.4 subtract 0.187.

6. Assignment (indicate whether it is for Reinforcement and/or Enrichment and/or Enhancement of the
day’s lesson or Preparation for a new lesson)
Preparation for Read and solve.
Next Lesson 1. A farmer has an orchard measuring 0.82 hectare. If 0.543 hectare is planted to mangoes
3minutes and the rest to avocados. What part is not planted to avocados?

2. Mr. Cruz has a 0.56 hectare land .He allotted 0.198 hectare to build a fishpond. What part
of this land is not allotted
7. Wrap- Keep In Mind
up/Concluding To add and subtract decimal numbers, write the number in column and always align the
Activity decimal point. You may add zeros in the last digit so that the addends/minuends and
2 minutes subtrahend will have the same number of decimal places.
