STANDING ORDERS FOR WATCH KEEPING OFFICERS ON THE BRIDGE OF M.V.

LEONIE

1) In case of reduced visibility (less than 2 nautical miles) inform the master
immediately. The close-up area of this vessel to meet other vessels at open sea
while visibility is reduced, shall not be less than 2 nautical miles.
2) Keep watch at anchor in same manner as at sea.
3) At sea, when the vessel is underway you must be on bridge at least 10 (ten)
minutes before relieving the watch, sign the night order book, acquaintance yourself
with ship’s position, speed, weather presence, movement of ship in sight or known to
be in vicinity and obtain any pertinent information the Officer being relieved may has
to pass on. Do not hand-over the watch to the relieving officer if you have reason to
believe that the later is obviously not capable carrying out his duties effectively, in
which case you should notify me accordingly.
4) All information retrieved by the radar/plotting devices shall be observed carefully and
added with proper factor of a safe distance.
5) At sea and in coastal waters position fixes should be carried out by radar and
electronic navigation aids and if possible add optical bearings and observe cross-
checks.
6) As the Officer of Watch, when vessel is underway you should be on the bridge all
the times. DO NOT LEAVE the bridge until another officer or my self properly relieves
you.
7) Ship’s, GMDSS, Compass observation log books should be filled properly and
signed at the end of the watch by OOW. Also the following entries have to recorded in
the ships logbook during the watch:
• charted track
• compass track gyro and magnetic
• the position and time of changes the course (except during manoeuvring)
• weather
• wind direction and force
• sea state
• result of cargo regular checks during adverse weather
• GMDSS Log B
8) Check incoming messages e g. EGC-messages, navigation warnings, weather
reports or other important messages at С-Sat terminals and NAVTEX-receivers. Record
important message broadcast via VHF.
9) Take into account the marine environmental protection measures, avoid any
possible actions and activities which could cause damage to environmental.

CALL THE MASTER WITHOUT ANY DELAY UNDER FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES:

• visibility reduce less than 2 nautical miles;


• ice observed within 3 nautical miles;
• in doubt of vessels position;
• break down of engine or black-out;
• a distress call from other stations or mobile units in the same sea area;
• oil spill;
• urgent incoming radiotelephone traffic.
