EFFFECTIVE WAYS OF SELF-STUDYING AND MEMORIZATION

To this day some student struggle to find the right strategy for learning on their own. Learning
strategies can be defined as the behaviors of a learner that are intended to influence how the
learner processes information. Examples include underlining of key ideas in a passage,
outlining of the ideas in a lecture, or trying to put some newly learned information into one's own
words (Richard E. Mayer, 2014).

When the participants were asked about what habits they use in self-directed learning, we found out
different approaches of self-studying used by the participants. The answers of the participants showed
what is the effective way of self-studying in which they learn the topics the most. Some of participants
shared common answer which is taking notes as their habit in self-directed learning.

Below are responses that are somewhat common answers.

“My approach is mainly focused on taking notes

and conducting research” – IDI05

“Taking notes, making flashcards, and reading

and scanning the handouts” – IDI07

“Note taking uhmm time management and

checklist uhmm”- IDI08

As stated above, the participants shared common response of note taking as their in learning.

To illustrate, IDI01 shared what habit they use in self-directed learning.

“If I’m going to cram, I’m using pomodoro

technique, every 25 minutes I have 25 minutes
to study, then then repeat it for 5 minutes” –
