Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM & REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter contains the introduction, background of the study, statement of

the problem, research assumptions, significance of the study, scope and limitations of
the study, definition of terms, and conceptual framework.

Introduction

Due to the influence of other people and mindsets, learners all around
theworld are learning on their own initiative. However, some students have alsobeen
looking for advice on what direction to go after finishing their secondaryeducation. One
of the difficulties that a student may experience is not knowingwhat course to pursue or
what they actually want to do. As a result, they cantake the wrong turn, and the students
might not be able to reach their full potential. This study intends to shed more light on
the variables that studentsshould think about and take into account before enrolling in
college. The personality of one's self plays an important role in choosing the
appropriatecourse in college. It is important for students to have a good understanding
of themselves if they are currently deciding what career path they'll take.

Numerous senior high school students in the Philippines are alsoexperiencing

the same difficulty as others worldwide. Due to thesecircumstances, the students
cannot fully develop their capabilities. According to Michael Horn (2019), value and
quality are relative concepts. They canonly be evaluated in light of the rationale behind
a person's purchase and theresults they hope to achieve. Even if the learner does not
want the suggestedprofessional route, parents who have an impact on students often
put a lot of pressure on them to pursue it. The Department of Education offers a

program for career counseling that takes place every year. It's thought that counseling
helps secondary school pupils navigate their selected career pathways.

Some students at Valley High Academy from different households are

bydefault expected to choose well-known careers. Some individuals whostruggle give in
to family pressure, which could have negative effects on theirprofessional trajectory. It is
believed that such demands, which pass for guardianship, are harmful to the students'
long-term achievement. Other pupils are unsure of which direction to go in the
meantime. Vallenians arerenowned for having imaginative plans for the future, yet they
also have someconflict due to the influence of the people who surround them.

This research will provide the students with further information and a
guidebefore they decide to take the path they want. It seeks to convey thenecessity of
making thoughtful career choices. By providing the students withthe facts and the
significance of the research, they will be able to completelydevelop their decisiveness
and create a clearer vision of what they will be inthe future. Particularly for students who
are still unsure of their chosen path. The students' ability to practice and be
career-oriented will allow them todistinguish between the benefits and drawbacks of
choosing an uncertain fieldof study when they have finished this research.
