Enhancing Employee Performance


- One of the most frequently used tools to improve employee performance is the annual
performance review.
- Performance evaluation
1. Coaching – is a non-judgmental and interactive activity. The manager and employee create a
performance plan focused on one or two performance areas.
2. Low Morale – leaders can help unmotivated, poor performers with low morale become more
disciplined and willing to perform assigned tasks, without threatening job loss.
3. Inexpensive Incentives – most employees want as their favorite incentive quick and sincere praise
form their manager. Employers can find motivating inexpensive incentives by understanding
what their employees’ value.

Employee Counseling
A counseling session is a meeting between the supervisor and the employee which may focus on
a specific incident, a particular aspect of an employee’s performance which the supervisor has identified.

Guidelines for aa Counseling Session


1. Speak to the employee about the specific reason for the counseling.
2. State the effect of the problem.
3. Ask for the individual’s perception of the problem and what is causing it.
4. Ask the employee for potential solutions.
5. Give the employee a reason to improve work attitude.
6. Reach an understanding on a corrective action.
7. Make sure the employer and the employee know what is expected for each other.
8. Identify follow-up steps and dates. Meet again with employee to review performance.
9. Incorporate unacceptable work performance in performance evaluation.

Employee Discipline
- is the use of penalty to induce the desired improvement in performance or conduct.
- focuses on a specific job-related behavior or conduct.
- is the means by which supervisory personnel correct behavioral deficiencies.

- Tardiness
- Absence
- Insubordination
- Rude
- Failure to follow
- Dishonesty
- Theft

Principle of Employee Discipline

.Henri Fayol, a noted French management theorist, proposed 14 Principles that he felt essential to
management. Discipline was on of those principles.
Fayol believed that a disciplined employee was one that not only was sincere about his work but also had
faith in the policies and procedures of an organization.
in Fayol's opinion, discipline in the workplace was a necessity for an organization to prosper. Without it,
an organization would certainly fail.
