I. NATURE OF STAFFING

The basic nature of staffing includes 10 different aspects. These let us

know what staffing deals and involves with. The following nature include
People-oriented, Development-oriented, Pervasive Function, Continuous
function, Human objectives, Individuals as well as group oriented, Developing
cordial working environment, Interdisciplinary nature, Integral part of general
management and Science as well as art.

1. People-oriented- It promotes and stimulates every employee to make his full

contribution to achieving the desired objective of the organization. Since
Staffing engages with many employees, being people-oriented helps the
organization work in a cooperative way which will make it easier achieving
the organization's goals.
2. Development-oriented- It is concerned with developing potentialities of
personnel in the organization. So, this nature guides and teaches the
employees into doing their job better to know what their full potential is that
will motivate them more into doing their work, which is why it is called
development-oriented because they develop those people which in return,
develops the organization.
3. Pervasive Function- Staffing is a pervasive function because it is required in
every organization. It is done by all managers and at all levels in each
department. It helps the organization perform a smooth process.
4. Continuous Function- Staffing is also a continuous function because it
requires constant alertness and awareness of human relations. It is important

to know what happens around the workplace's surroundings and its people to
ensure that the organization is in a good position.
5. Human Objectives- It develops potentialities of employees so that they can
derive maximum satisfaction from their work. This is somehow similar to
development-oriented because the objectives aim to improve and benefit the
employees from their work to reach the desired organizational goals.
6. Individuals as well as group oriented- This nature ensures proper
organizational structure to meet the individual and group's satisfaction on
needs and efforts. It also creates a good relationship or bond between the
employees and the organization.
7. Developing cordial working environment- It provides a very comfortable
physical and psychological working environment. So, by creating a friendly and
welcoming work environment, the employees are motivated to work comfortably
and better and it also creates productivity and satisfaction.
8. Interdisciplinary nature- It uses concepts drawn from various disciplines
such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, and management. The concepts
under the social sciences are related to Staffing as it helps to understand how
to perform Staffing in the most efficient and effective way.
9. Integral part of general management- Since staffing is a pervasive function,
it is important to understand that Staffing includes skills and knowledge that
are beneficial to an individual to become a better manager.
10. Science as well as art- Staffing is an interdisciplinary nature involving
principles and techniques. It is also considered art because it deals with
humans, which takes time to be professional at. It also tests one's creativity
in managing the employees.

II. CHARACTERISTICS OF STAFFING

The characteristics of Staffing as a function of management is important to

learn to understand deeply what qualities it takes that requires professional
skills and abilities. These are namely Related to Human being, Separate
Managerial Function, Essential at All Managerial Levels, Related to Social
Responsibility, and Effect of Internal and External Environment.

1. Related to Human being- This characteristic is evidently important as Staffing

deals with human beings. Those skilled workers are handled by the staffing

team, it can include recruitment, promotion, selection, training, and a lot more.

2. Separate Managerial Function- Staffing is not just a part of some function,

but it is considered a major function because it is also a part of the general

function of management together with planning, organizing, leading, and

controlling.

3. Essential at All Managerial Levels- The different levels of managers work

together in Staffing, and it goes in a cycle or process and each of them has

their

own roles and responsibilities so in that way, the performance of the staffing

management is done in an effective and productive way.

4. Related to Social Responsibility- Since Staffing deals with human beings, it

will also deal with social responsibility. Managers should know how to properly

manage their people to build strong relationships.

5. Effect of Internal and External Environment- It is certain that the

environment, whether it be internal and external, will have an impact on the

performance of staffing. The policies such as demotion, transfer, or promotion

policy are examples of the internal environments that will affect the employees'

position. On the other hand, external environments such as customer

demands, unemployment rates, government laws, and others will make

changes to the function of staffing.

III. EMPLOYEE REMUNERATION

Employee remuneration is when an employee receives a benefit or

compensation in return for his/her work performance. The purpose of having
remuneration is to motivate the employees and encourage them to do their
work actively and effectively. Because remuneration provides compensation
that benefits the employee, it will create motivation which affects their work
performance in a positive way. In some cases, each employee may receive a
specific remuneration depending on their needs. Managers should analyze the
needs of their employees to achieve one’s satisfaction. Even with different
compensations given, it must be equal and fair to all employees in the
organization.

IV. SEVEN IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS

In Staffing, there are at least seven important functions to take note of in

order to gain knowledge on the activities involved in Staffing. The following
consists of Manpower Planning, Development, Fixing the Employment
Standards, Sources, Selection and Placement, Training, and Other functions.

1. Manpower Planning- This is also called Human Resource Planning where it

manages the controlling, motivating, and coordination of the different
organizational activities. It also deals with the improvement of strategies and
evaluating current manpower resources, predicting future needs and
availability, and forming actions to meet demand.

2. Development- It is important to promote the development of employees to

have better knowledge and skills. Training them more will not just benefit
themselves, but also the organization.
3. Fixing the Employment Standards- It involves the job specification and job
description. In Staffing, these two should be accurate so the possible
candidates will know what they're putting themselves into. Both the job
description and specification will help them form an idea of how they are
trained or what their roles will be.
4. Sources- From the term itself, these act as alternatives. It is a method by
which the staff members are chosen. These can be internal or external
sources. An internal source is where a staff member within the company is
selected, whereas, in an external source, the selected member is from outside
the company.
5. Selection and Placement- This is the process where selecting the right
employees and placing them based on what they specialized in. Effective
selection and placement lead to an organized and healthy workplace.
6. Training- Training is essential because it forms process and improvement on
the skills of employees. It is not required for new staff members only but also
for current staff members.
7. Other Functions- The other function of staffing includes coordination,
promotion, transfer, record maintenance regarding employees, rating of
employees, motivation, and a lot more but these functions are helpful and
beneficial to both employees and the organization. It is important that these
are applied and practiced making an organization grow.
