4A’s LESSON PLAN in SCIENCE 10

Date: ______________
Time: ______________
I- Objective: At the end of the lesson, the students would be able to:
a. Define convergent boundary and name landforms created;
b. Create a product/idea that is inspired by the concept of convergent boundary; and
c. Appreciate the importance of convergent processes in keeping the balance on Earth.
II- Subject Matter:
a. Topic: Convergent Boundary
b. Learning Competency: The learners…
1. Describe the different types of plate boundaries (S10ES –Ia-j-36.2)
c. Reference: Book Science 10, SLM Science 10 Quarter 1, Internet
d. Materials: IMS
e. Strategy: Student-Centered Approach, Collaborative Learning
III- Procedure:
a. Preparatory Activity
b. Prayer
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Setting of Standards
e. Review of the Previous Lesson
IV- Lesson Proper
a. Activity
“Sing-and-Think”

In the review of the previous lesson, the teacher will make it engaging and exciting by having
it in a form of a game entitled “Sing-and-Think”. The students will form a big circle and will
sing the teacher-made song “Manganta Ta Karon! Pangalan sa mga _________.”. After
singing the song, the teacher will pick the category for the second part of the game wherein
the student will provide words/terms relevant to the category being picked. The teacher will
give each student 5 seconds to share their idea about the given topic. If the student wasn’t
able to say a word within 5 seconds he/she will go in front and the game will continue until all
the 4 categories prepared by the teacher has been played. The 4 students selected in the
game will pull altogether the arrows in the illustration to reveal the hidden word “Pangea”.

Category:
1. Name of Volcanoes or Mountains in the Philippines.
2. Name of Landforms.
3. Name of countries across Asia.
4. Name of places located in Cagan/Caragan Valley.

b. Analysis

The teacher will let the students to share their thoughts and brilliant ideas about their given
question in connection with their activity.
Student 1: What is Pangea?
Student 2: What are the four layers of the Earth?
Student 3: In your own opinion, what is the purpose of volcano?
Student 4: Why do Pangea moved until is has been broken into 7 continents in the present
day?

c. Abstraction
Convergent Plate Boundary
- A type of plate boundary where two plates slide towards each other and form either a
subduction zone (if one plate moves underneath the other) or an orogenic belt (if the two
simply collide and compress). An orogenic belt is a region of deformed rocks. What
happens at the boundary depend on the nature of the colliding plates. There are three
possible cases: Oceanic-Oceanic, Oceanic-Continental, and Continental-Continental
Convergence.

Oceanic-Oceanic Convergence
- When two oceanic plates collide, a subduction zone is formed. The descending oceanic
plate begins to melt upon contact with asthenosphere. The molten material begins to
rise, creating a chain of volcanoes. An oceanic trench, a long narrow depression in the
ocean floor, is also created at the subduction zone.
e.g. Marianas Trench and Philippine Trench

Oceanic-Continental Convergence
- When an oceanic plate collides with a continental plate, the oceanic plate subducts
beneath the continental plate, possibly forming a trench. Volcanic mountains also
develop on land.
e.g.

Continental-Continental Convergence
- When two continental plates collide, no subduction happens. Instead the continents
suture themselves. The continental crust buckles and rocks pile up, creating towering
mountain ranges.
e.g. The Himalayas Mountain Ranges and Cordillera Mountain Ranges

d. Application
The student will apply their learning about the concept of Convergent Boundary in
creating something (anything) useful in the society. They will be group into 3 and will be
given 15 minutes to work collaboratively in crafting their output and they will select
representative/s to present their activity and explain its usage/relevance in community
improvement.
Group 1: Tourism Attraction!
Think of a catchy tagline promoting Cagan as a future tourism attraction in Davao de Oro
showcasing its beautiful views and landforms. In addition, give possible tourism activities
and business establishment while preserving its natural beauty.
e.g It’s more fun in the Philippines!
Group 2: Ulat Kaalaman!
How does the mountainous landform of Cagan counter the catastrophic advent of typhoon?
Make an educational presentation about the given topic like Kuya Kim doing in 24-Oras.
The presentation should include the origin of mountain or mountain ranges or Orogenesis. If
possible the group may also add information about the beliefs of Mandaya about the
Mountain
that they live in.
Group 3: Preparation is the Key!
Make an Evacuation Plan as a mitigation and preparation to be ready when calamity happen
in your place. Include things to do Before, During, and After a calamity.
Criteria:

V- Evaluation

Test II: List down 5 the tectonic plates in the illustration that undergo Convergent
Boundary using the arrow.
Test II: Essay Type. Based on your understand about the topic Constellation briefly
explain your opinion and ideas about the statement/question below.
