be able to:
1. Define volcano and its parts.
2. Describe the different types of volcanoes.
3. Illustrate a real-life example of each type of
volcano.

C. EXPLORE
Strategy: Cooperating Learning
(Differentiated Group ActIvity)

Take note class that the words you guess

in the previous activity are related to our
next activity.

“ACTIVITY 3: DESCRIBE, IDENTIFY,

DIFFERENTIATE ME BEAUTIFULLY!”
Directions: The class will be divided into 4
groups there will be pictures being
presented in the screen. Each group are
task to:

Group 1: Describe the volcano

Group 2: Identify the parts of the volcano.

Group 3: Differentiate the types of

volcanoes.
Group 4: Give examples of each type of
volcanoes.

D. EXPLAIN
Strategy: Q and A and Explanation Group 1

So now, were going to discuss about

volcano.
A volcano is a crack, opening or hole that occurs
in the earth’s crust, which allows lava or magma
to be expelled from there along with ash, gases,
rocky material and liquid at high temperature,
among other things found deep in the earth’s
Very Good! crust.

Why volcano occur?

Volcanoes can be formed by the constant

movement of tectonic plates on the earth,
which promote the origin of the volcano
when a collision occurs between these
plates where one of them emerges.
Usually a thin, heavy oceanic plate
subducts, or moves under, a thicker
continental plate. When this happens, the
ocean plate sinks into the mantle resulting
to the formation of mountains. This gives
rise to the hot liquid in specific areas of the
earth.

Barangay Clap for Group 1!

Group 2

● Ash cloud – a cloud of ash formed

by volcanic explosions.
● Crater - it is the hole or opening of
the volcano, it is the contact
between the chimney and the
exterior surface, from where the
magma will be expelled from the
interior of the earth. It surrounds
the vent.
● Vent – an opening in the surface of  Ash Cloud
the earth through which materials  Crater
can escape.  Vent
● Conduit – an underground passage  Conduit
which magma travels through. A  Lava
pipe channel that conveys the
magma.  Magma
● Lava – liquid rock that flows out  Magmatic Chamber
from a volcano.  Caldera
● Magma – liquid rock inside a
volcano. It can be viscous (thick).
● Magmatic chamber - is a deposit of
molten rock or magma that lies
beneath the earth’s crust at high
pressure. A large underground of
liquid rock.
● Caldera – a large depression
formed when a volcano erupts and
collapses.

Give a Dionesia Clap for group 2!

Shield Volcano.

This is formed by the accumulation of

lava oozes out from the volcano. Since, Group 3
non-viscous can flow freely. Abroad,
slightly doomed structure that resembles a
warrior shields form is formed.

 Tall
and broad with flat, rounded shapes.
 Have low slopes and almost always have
large craters at their summits.
 They are built by countless outpourings of
lava that advance great distances from a
central summit vent or group of vents.
 The outpourings of lava are typically not
accompanied by pyroclastic material, which
make the shield volcanoes relatively safe
during eruptions.
Cinder Cone Volcano

The cinder cone volcano is built from

ejected lava fragments. They have steep
slope, wide crater and is most abundant
three major volcanoes.
 Also known as scoria cone.
 Cinder cones are simple volcanoes which
have a bowl-shaped crater at the summit
and steep sides. They only grow to about a
thousand feet, the size of a hill.
 During the eruption, blobs ("cinders") of
lava are blown into the air and break into
small fragments that fall around the
opening of the volcano. The pile forms an
Composite Volcano oval-shaped small volcano.
The composite volcano is a large and
nearly perfect sloped structure form by
alternate solidification of both lava and
pyroclastic deposits.

 Also known as stratovolcano.

 Can have a cluster of vents, with lava
breaking through walls issuing from
fissures on the perimeters of the mountain.
 Composite volcanoes are tall, symetrically
shaped, with steep sides, sometimes rising
10,000 feet high. They are built of
alternating layers of lava flows, volcanic
ash, and cinders.
Give the Angel Clap for group 3!

E. ELABORATE
Strategy: Video- Analysis

For you to have a deeper understanding

about the ionic and covalent compounds. I
want everybody to please watch this short
video.

After this, another activity will do.

(the students are watching the video)

1. What is a volcano?
Ma’am volcanoes serves an opening to the earth’s
crust. Volcano occurs when there is a movement
in tectonic plates resulting earthquakes. Volcanoes
form when one tectonic plate moves under
another. Usually a thin, heavy oceanic plate
subducts, or moves under, a thicker continental
plate resulting to the creation of volcano.

2. Give the 3 types of volcano

according to its shape? Ma’am the 3 types of volcano according to its
shape are shield, cinder cone, and composite
volcano.

3. Give me atleast 2 examples of each

type of volcano?
