Quarter: Duration: Date:
Level:
SCIENCE 9 3
I .OBJECTIVES

Content Stardards The learners demonstrate an understanding of volcanoes found in the Philippines

Performance Standards The learners shall be able to participate in the activities that reduce risks and lessen
the effects of natural phenomenon such as volcanic eruption

Learning Competency/ies:

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

a. Identify the types of a volcano

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC TYPES OF VOLCANO

B. REFERENCE Science Learning Module, Google,Youtube

C. MATERIALS Powerpoint Presentation, Illustrations

III. Procedures:

TEACHER'S ACTIVITY STUDENT'S ACTIVITY

4.1 Introductory Activity Good morning Ma'am!!!

Good morning Clas!! Before we start our lesson, let us pray first. One student will volunteer to lead the prayer.
3 minutes Who wants to lead the prayer?

4.2 Motivation Some students will share what they recall from the last
Review of the previous topic; Introduction of the new topic thru a game
10 minutes discussion; Students will actively participate in the game
4.3 Analysis
Discussion Proper: Presentation of Slides with video and illustration of the
types of volcano. Teacher shows a picture of different volcano and asks
students about what they notice.
20 minutes

Alright class, have many volcanoes have you seen? What did you notice Probable Answer: A volcano is a mountain that forms
in each of them? when magma reaches the surface of the Earth

There are 6 types of a volcano, these are:

Fissure volcanoes are produced by eruptions that occur along elongated
fissures versus at a central vent. Fissure eruptions occur when magma-
filled dikes intersect the surface.
A shield volcano is a broad volcano with shallow inclining sides. Shield
volcanoes are formed from many magma flows of low viscosity. The
magma flows out of the vent and slides down the slopes of the volcano
and builds up the size. A shield volcano is named so due to their similarity
to a warrior’s shield lying on the ground.
Volcanic dome, also called Lava Dome, any steep-sided mound that is
formed when lava reaching the Earth’s surface is so viscous that it cannot
flow away readily and accumulates around the vent.
Ash-Cinder Volcano are the simplest type of volcano. They are built from
particles and blobs of congealed lava ejected from a single vent. As the
gas-charged lava is blown violently into the air, it breaks into small
fragments that solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form a
circular or oval cone.
Composite volcanoes can be the most picturesque of all volcanoes. A
classic composite volcano is conical with a concave shape that is steeper
near the top. These mountains commonly have snow-covered peaks
standing high above the surrounding mountainous terrain.
A caldera is a large depression formed when a volcano erupts and
collapses.
4.4 Abstraction
Since we already understand the lesson, let us summarize it. Can anyone
share with the class what you recall form our discussion?
Some students will share their ideas.
10 minutes For your further understanding of the topic, I will show you a video
presentation.
4.5 Application
We will have an application of what you learned. I will show you an
illustation of various volcanoes then one by one the students will tell me Students will actively participate.
10 minutes
what type of volcano it is.

4.6 Evaluation Let us have a little activity to assess your learnings:

DIRECTIONS: Arrange the jumbled words to identify the type of volcano.
1. HASNCIRED OVCLNAO 2.
OVCLNAO OMDE
3. SSFUIER OVCLAON
4. AALCEDR OVCLAON
5. DISEHL OVCLANO
6. SOIOECMPT OVCLANO

Kindly get a 1/4 sheet of paper and answer the

10 minutes questions.

4.7 Assignment Have a further reading on the types of a volcano and its importance.
